the police are all bark and no bite. They release these bullshit reports to the media and occasionally flex their muscles with a raid but its just tactics to keep the numbers down. Some people in our group heard on the news on Friday that the roads into Nimbin were blocked, and every car was being searched. However nothing could be further from the truth. Hardly anyone saw a cop car on the way in or out, let alone cars being searched. Police just wanted to frighten people into not coming, and to maintain visibility, that is all. They made their presence be felt heavily Thursday afternoon before the weekend with 3 teams of 2 doing constant rounds of the town looking into all the shops and down the alleyways, and apparently the rapid response unit was in town, whatever that means. Later on in the weekend, when the crowds got bigger, they started patrolling in groups of 4 or 5, and on horses.

 

all in all I think the police were OK, not too intrusive from what I saw, and no dogs.
