Forbes considered for hemp trial crop

Further trials of industrial hemp will be planted in central west New South Wales due to a change in State Government legislation.

A licensing scheme is to be introduced to allow farmers to grow the crop commercially for the first time.

The Dubbo-based company Demand Farming Australia says its market research shows demand from the building supplies and automotive industries.

Its national agronomy manager, David Ward, there are plans to grow the crop in Narromine or Forbes.

"We'll have trials with our demand farmers in the '08-'09 summer and working with our seed breeder and introducing varieties to this area and agronomy packages and management and taking it through from there," he said.

"So there's no reason why there won't be industrial hemp in the western district."

This is really good news! lol

I know that they are breeding or have bred a plant with really low THC levels, but I don't know if that will really stop some people from trying to raid the crops.

Any clue on what security would be like?

It really would be an exercise in futility for people to go and steal from these crops since the plants would probably give you nothing but a headache but there are still a lot of mentally inept people out there! :/

I really hope these trials succeed and allow more people out there to grow crops like this!

I would be more than happy to work on one of these farm too. Or a processing plant or what have you.

It about time the government woke up to themselves and got this happening.

Since hemp can replace a great deal of things in society, like hemp for clothes, building, plastics, fuel, it makes me wonder tho how the other industries feel about this?

Cheers n have a good one.

:peace:

funny how a country that was colonized for the sole purpose to grow HEMP for the brittish empire needs to do "tests" to see if growing the crop is worthwhile.... what about all the so called "testing" theyve been doing in other parts of the country for over 10 years?.. namely Tassie?..

seems another farce to me... just fuckin grow the shit... learn from other countries leading the way on HEMP farming.. like France.. and Holland... why cant we just import experts like we have for the construction of windfarms...

all tho i firmly believe its a decision for the better.. i still think they are holding back an industry that will eventually take over as the oil fields run dry... i just wish they would stop fuck assing around...

now where do i apply for a job...

funny how that story isnt open for comments...

China mate. They grow shit loads of hemp there.

Let's all chip in and buy some land in NSW's and then we can grow uh huh uh huh hmmmmmmmmmm la la la la errrr low THC hemp for industrial purposes and err cough cough research

With our experience we could become the best damned hemp farmers in the land

I wonder whether you would ever get busted for having a 'special couple' of plants, spread out throughout the farm... only you would know which ones were real weed so unless they wanna test a few thousand plants to check if your growing weed it could be quite a money maker... move to NSW, buy farm, grow a non commercial personal stash out in the open sunshine, and earn a shitload of cash by farming your favourite plant all day while baked.... the australian dream?
