General Cultivation Q&A

Hi all first time poster long time lurker. I'm about to start my first grow in a couple of wks. I'll be growing 2 autos under 4 x 55w T5 fluros. For my growing medium I've mixed up yates potting mix with dynanic lifter and around 20-30% perlite. I've put it into a fairly large pot with good size drain holes but the mixture seems to be holding onto too much water. I did give it a good soaking but it hasn't drained like I thought it should. Is this normal or should I bin the Yates stuff and start again? Thanks in advance!

Hey guys im currently in ebb and flow tables. I dont use organic nutrents in my res for pretty obvious reasons.. I base base flower nutes only (canna or h and g). Currently using supa stiky by cyco. Which is synthetic and i can use it in flood and drain hydroton filled table. Is there anything else out there that anyone can recommend for full hydro. I like my supa stiky but there must be something else out there? Checked out bio diesel the other day. Looks like its loaded with goodies but dont want hell to break out and unusuble nutrients in a full hydro res and rot been there done that.... Looked into ozitonic and stuff. Owner told me no. Not in hydroballs. …

ok, so I grow lots of herbs, you know your parsley starts going to seed, or your basil begins flowering, you nip them off, and keep it vegging, can it be done with dope? I dont mean Re-vegging as such. just soon as flowers appear nip them off, and continue...... Couldnt find anything online, lots about re-vegging, of course.

I never really liked paper towels although they worked for me with mixed results but I decided to try something else on my last grow and this idea worked perfectly. it's not that eco-friendly i guess but then again you can reuse them over and over which is nice. What I do is I get a couple of chux squares off a roll and place one on bottom of any plastic or whatever container you have. Takeaway container works well as you can place lid on to get more humidity (not close). Place one on top of the seeds once you put them in. FIRST THOUGH WASH the chux out in fresh water in case anything is in them from factory. Then just use as you would paper towels. The great thing…

Had a horrific day today when re staking my girls. One of them has a beautiful four way junction at her stem base which when I was LST and staking it I noticed she'd spilt right down the center! Arghh!! Mind you I'm pre flowering and I don't want my girl having to repair herself this late. I've managed to tie her up around the stem and also keep the tops out where they need to be. Wish me luck. Hopefully she'll just repair and flower beautifully or am I just too optimistic? Anyway, I've given her the best possible chance. Also I've done some lollipopping and trimming. Mixed in some blood and bone and watered that in with molasses water. Apart from all that I also …

So for about the past week a cricket has been running around my veg tent as i move pots. Is there any benefit? is it eating smaller insects? Its been there for a week now, and still very lively, so it must be feeding on something? Or should i put the little dude outside?

I've been around the same buds for most of my life - Durban, Thai, white widow, northern lights etc - all the classics. But now I want to try something new. I'm happy with my European supplier but I want to try some American strains. Can anyone recommend strains and/or good suppliers? Thanks in advance.

I have some beautiful healthy females and was wondering how close flowering stage is for this one?
