Sniffer dogs would be re-introduced to Darwin and Alice Springs airports to stop drug trafficking, a federal senator said yesterday. Federal Senator Bronwyn Bishop made the pledge after a tour of Top End Aboriginal communities last week. Senator Bishop said she was shocked by the revelation that children aged as young as 10 smoke cannabis in the Territory. Senator Bishop, who chairs the House of Representatives Standing Committee on Legal and Constitutional Affairs, said she was shocked by levels of juvenile drug use at communities. The committee held public hearings last week in Darwin, Wadeye and Nguiu. She said drug use was stopping community children obtaini…

the first jrs charity auction was less than stellar. we only had two participants and raised a total of 62.50 for the habitat for humanity. thanks to all for your support. in two weeks we will have another one for the same cause, as 62.50 is not a very significant donation. over time i hope that we can gain your trust and participation for a good cause. we will keep fighting the good fight. thanks again. gds

A father of two has been jailed for six months for cultivating cannabis at home using sophisticated equipment, including an ozone generator. Humpty Doo resident Dwight Anthony Brieffies, 42, was caught with 6.085kg of cannabis and four plants in a concealed grow room. He told the Supreme Court the drug was for personal use _ even though he admitted it would have taken him two years to smoke his crop. Brieffies, who was convicted of a similar offence a year ago, said he used cannabis because he had trouble sleeping after separating from his wife. Police raided Brieffies' home in February this year and discovered the 6kg stash of cannabis and two elaborate grow …

Hello, I read this on http://www.smalltimes.com about the up and coming small technology..hehe In Taunton, Kopin Corp. is now in its third generation of tiny technology products. The company, founded in the 1980s, brought out its first product for consumer applications in 1996: a 50-nanometer transistor that is used in one in four cellphones. It followed with flat-screen displays, the size of a fingernail, that are used in camcorders. And last year, Kopin introduced a new semiconductor chip, known as a light-emitting diode, that is the smaller than a grain of sand but can emit near blinding light with low amounts of power. This type of lighting, known as solid state …

Scientists have known for years that the brain makes substances almost identical to the active ingredient in marijuana, but the function of these "cannabinoids" remained mysterious. Researchers now say they help to extinguish traumatic memories. "In certain situations, being able to forget is very important for emotional survival," said George Kunos, a neurobiologist at the National Institutes of Health. http://cannabisnews.com/news/thread13601.shtml Pot Blocks Painful Memories, Study Says Dr. Lutz's study will only add to the argument in favour of decriminalization. But it is also a landmark in medical terms because it deals with one of the central survival mechanis…

Below is a quote from the green party SA bill from Hansard. We all need to call our pollies & make them be aware that it is not their god given right to decide our medication. Would you ask a plumber to pescribe cures for ailments - then why let pollies decide our treatment... It takes only a few minutes to call your local pollie & voice your concerns. If privacy is an issue then don't give your full name to them. Look how the laws have changed for the worse in SA recently - the only people to profit are bikie gangs & organised crime - it's the mr & mrs small time personal growers who are now crims. IT IS TIME FOR A CHANGE... CONTROLLED SUBSTANC…

Source: New York Times medical San Francisco -- A convicted marijuana grower was sentenced to one day in prison and fined $1,000 by a federal judge today, the most lenient sentence allowed under law. The defendant, Ed Rosenthal, had faced a possible sentence of 100 years in prison and a potential fine of $4.5 million for his conviction in January on felony charges of marijuana cultivation and conspiracy. "We are all delighted with what we view as as fair and just a sentence that could be imposed under the circumstances of Ed having suffered a conviction," one of Mr. Rosenthal's lawyers, Dennis P. Riordan, said. Federal authorities arrested Mr. Rosenthal last yea…

Source: KR Washington Bureau cannabis Blaine, Wash. - For decades the drug smuggling war has raged to the south in dusty Mexican border towns or along the sparkling waters of the Caribbean. But in the cool evergreen forests of the Pacific Northwest, a new front has opened up thanks to a potent breed of pricey Canadian marijuana. B.C. Bud is so sought after in the United States that it has been known to trade on the street dollar for dollar with cocaine, federal law enforcement officials say. Named for its birthplace in British Columbia, the high-grade pot is wreaking havoc on the once sleepy northern border. Enterprising smugglers are using kayaks, horse trailers, …

This is a story about a UK gov drug envoy. In control of so called drug action teams. I actually feel sorry for this bloke, I spose it serves him right. Guardian Article - How Britain is Losing the War On Drugs Heres a snippet, I was a bit high when I read this so it was very funny: If its not militaristic fascism a la the US then its this sort of incompetence. Just another reason why drug policy should be, if anything, a health based policy not a criminal justice one. At least their incompetence isn't busting small time choofers. SNAFU

Just my 2 cents worth on the new 4 year trail of medical use for NSW resisdents. I believe that the NSW Labour government are chicken shits! The only reason I see that they are doing this trail is the fact that they wanted the GREENIE prefrences in this last election just gone and had to compromise on their drug policy (which I am sure you all heard about on the news before the election). I guess its a start. Anyway keep voting for the GREENS!
