http://www.news.com.au/mercury/story/0,228...5006550,00.html Stoned stupidity GREG BARNS April 09, 2007 12:00am Article from: The Mercury Font size: + - Send this article: Print Email ANOTHER week, another series of headlines and stories about the impact of illicit drugs in our community -- and, naturally, more calls from the law-and-order brigade to jail people who take illicit drugs or traffic in them. Of course, it won't work. The war against drugs, which most Western societies appear addicted to, is simply a scandalous waste of money, resources and lives. Politicians fulminate about the evils of drugs such as ice and heroin, and judges and magistr…

Modern life: Drug rap doesn't wash This story is so odd, we have to tell it straight. The Los Angeles Times reports that last week police stopped Don Bolles, the drummer with the punk band the Germs, on his way to an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting. His van had a broken tail-light. Inside the van, police say, they found "a toiletry kit containing denture glue, razors and a bottle of Dr Bronner's Magic Soap (peppermint fragrance)". A field test of the liquid soap allegedly indicated it contained GHB, a date-rape drug. Bolles was arrested for felony narcotics possession. The soap company's chief executive, David Bronner, heard of the arrest and hired Bruce Margolin, a …

Drug users claim lighter jail terms * 3000% increase in drug users claiming mental impairment * Top laywer says system is being rorted DRUG users are taking advantage of South Australia's mental impairment defence laws to gain lighter sentences. The head of the South Australian Parole Board Frances Nelson QC today said the definition of mental impairment was too wide under 10-year-old reforms by the SA Government and many criminals were escaping with lenient jail terms. A man who grew 15 cannabis plants through a hydroponic operation at his home in Canberra has escaped conviction by an ACT Supreme Court. Police discovered the plants when they raided Guy Terance Hawksley's home in Turner in October 2003. Today the court heard he used the drug to treat pain from a back injury sustained when he was training to become an elite rower. Hawksley provided results from a test for cannabis to show he was now clean. Justice Terry Connolly said the man had turned his life around and was now finding alternative ways to treat the pain. He did not convict Hawksley but placed him on a 12-month good behaviour bond. Author:ABC Date:Wednesday, …

Do “Skunk” Stats Stink? Trevor Butterworth, March 27, 2007 British newspapers clash over drug war: is super-cannabis turning users schizo? Britain is in the middle of a newspaper war about whether some newspapers went too far in advocating liberalization of the nation’s drug laws. On Monday, the Daily Telegraph ran a front-page headline “Skunk killed my beloved son,” wherein a mother recounted the suicide of her teenage son, after a descent into “cannabis induced psychosis.” “I was stunned to learn that cannabis could be so harmful - it bore no resemblance to the drug I had puffed once or twice at university. And although it has been around for years, I had never he…

Geocities: The Digital Genesis
In the bustling digital streets of the late '90s, Yahoo Geocities stood out as a haven for burgeoning online communities. A Hiatus and the Phoenix's Ascent
Come 2022, OZ Stoners entered a period of unplanned dormancy, lasting a challenging 12 months. But, reminiscent of the legendary phoenix, this hiatus was transformed into an opportunity for rebirth. The platform underwent comprehensive upgrades, server enhancements, and a revitalising overhaul. As it emerged, it did so with a phoenix-like rise, soaring higher and brighter, dedicated to serving the community with even more zeal and purpose.
Ode to the Trailblazers
The tapestry of OZ Stoners is woven with the dedication and vision of its founding members. Their relentless drive and contributions have been the bedrock of its success. While many of these pioneers continue to shape its direction, we pause to honor those trailblazers we've lost over time. Their indomitable spirit continues to inspire and resonate within the cannabis community. - Memorial Hall
