scrog growing.. questions

Recommended Posts

hi

you will need to train the growing tips of the plant through the screen horizontally, kind of weave it along as it grows.. to get it more bushy, yes you can tip the growing tips, this will encorough lower branching.. they will eventually catch up and you can weave them through also

hope this makes sence

from my experience, its better to tie a plant down instead of tipping it as it will reduce the stress induced + the plant continues to grow instead of stopping, healing and then growing :o

now i have never done a scrog grow but from what i have read, you'll want the branches just starting to preflower as they are just above the screen....that way the buds start at the screen and the smaller, pointless growth underneath dies off leaving the plant to concentrate on bud production :o

i had a dream ages back that i was doing a scrog grow...weird thing was i treated the plant like a spider web and weaved it in circles around the main stem and by the time harvest came around, my grow area was just a canopy of buds :reallyexcited: what a bitch dreams are not real :thumbdown

Set the screen height anywhere from 6-12 inches - remember you have to get your hands under it for training.

When the plant gets to the screen, tip it. A few days after it branches remove the lower weaker tips. Remember than fat stems = fat buds.

You should have AT LEAST 4 strong branches. Allow it to stretch out, when a tip pokes through a hole, just move it to the next hole.

When the secondary branching reaches about 4-6 nodes, tip them.

The strain I use - Northern Girl - doesnt stretch much so I let it get quite big before switching.

I also remove excess fan leaves. Basically if its blocking light to a growth tip, or later, a bud, it gets removed.

When flowering has been induced, continue to train the largest strongest stems & prune the small, weak or late growth. How long the stretch lasts is also strain dependant. NG stops stretching after about 2 weeks, so I train & prune for about 10 days, then after that just prune any late shoots.

Any excess shoots that start below the screen should be removed along with any excess foliage. Do this over a period of about a week, to avoid stressing the plant excessively.

Dont overcrowd the area, its a recipe for mould, as well as your buds will be really skinny ( learnt that one from experience...... :thumbdown )

For ease of training I would recommend using 2 inch squares for the screen. Dont fill every hole, I would say fill every 2nd hole, to give your buds some room to fatten.

Also I only use 1 plant in a 85 x 45cm area. I veg for about 3 weeks before switching. Using a second plant in that area would halve my veg time, but Im not too worried about a week or so extra.

Good ventilation is extremely important with scrog. Dont skimp on it or youll pay the price ( mould!! )

Hope this helps a bit.....
