Medical Access

Question

A couple of months ago I asked my GP about obtaining cannabis to treat my ongoing symptoms.

"Ohh ahhh, I don't know anything about the processes, I wouldn't know where to start..."

Being that I'm in SA and there being no clinic's here (our state Gov't (Liberal) still have their heads buried firmly up their own arses)  I thought the whole process would be a waste of time

I went investigating and found a clinic in NSW, who would go through the whole process online.

So after a couple of weeks of paperwork both from myself and my GP, today I got the call from the clinic and have had the initial approval.

I now have to obtain the approval from the TGA but from what I've been told this should not be a problem and should take less than a week.

The Dr I spoke to has told me that what he would be prescribing is a CBD and THC combination as my situation is pain related.

I asked the Dr about the cost of the medication itself as it is NOT on the PBS and I have to say it is NOT cheap.

The Dr himself would not actually tell me a defined cost but advised me to call the chemist in Victoria.

Upon doing so I was told $270/50ml + postage ($30), so $300 delivered. First thought "Fuck, it'd be cheaper to go buy an ounce" but have decided to follow through with the process.

At this point I have not been told of the recommended dosages, so how long that 50ml is going to last I am unsure.

I am also unsure if I may be able to get my local chemist to get it in for me or whether it needs to come from an approved compounding chemist, solely in Victoria.

So the processes have been started. The dr and the prepaid TGA approvals have cost me $550 so far (that's without the script itself), so let's see how much more it's gonna cost

When I have any further info I will let you all know.

Just thought others maybe interested

"...would have thought that australian legislation would not approve for any decent amount of thc in a cbd product"

This is not a solely CBD product but rather a dried flower medication. There are products available that are solely CBD based, but this is not one of them.

They need to see the list of medications your on/have been on to show proof that cannabis is of benefit.

All going well-having phone call Friday morning with the doctor.

If he thinks hubby can get approval then cost will be $150 because of concession so far.

If there are any problems then it's just $50 for the nurse consultation.

Dispensary they have is on the Gold Coast.

Was told by doing it this way they can control how much people are charged.

Legal advice was it will be better in court if we have legal meds

Had call with the doctor today and got approval.

Should be ready next week.

Cost so far $150 because of the pension card but they also accept healthcare card for the discount as well.

Very easy process. 2 phone calls and proof of what medications have/had been prescribed.

Once we get that there's no need to grow anymore...

But the cost of the meds is exorbitant. With the costs of approvals and the medication itself over a 3-4 months, it's enough to buy a light, grow and (If you have your processes in place) produce 100 times more than a script provides.

From all reports, they reckon the cost will reduce over time, which it has, by about $20-30/script. But no matter how you look at it, it's heaps cheaper to grow your own and there's nothing quite like "Getting high on ya own supply" lol lol

True but to get the cost down more people need to get legal scripts.

The good part is our family can safely travel now interstate without fear.

If any of my family passed away interstate hubby can now spend whatever time needed with me and have legal meds with him.

Going before the judge next month will look good having hubby now on legal cannabis as well.

I couldn't agree more. They NEED to reduce all of the red tape. I can get as many opiates as I want with less cost and less red tape. It's bullshit. The govt making themselves more important than they actually are.

P.S. Hint: Keep all of the labelled containers.

There was hardly any red tape.

Just had to get a list of hubby's meds from his doctor, a nurse consults over the phone with a 10 min questionnaire to fill out online then not even a 10 min phone call with a doctor.

It's getting easier all the time now.

Have been given the choice of driving down the Gold Coast to pick up his script or post.

The post is only a day from the Coast to Brissie anyway. More proof of him having cannabis for a medical reason.
