Seeds

As a new grower I've been experimenting with germination over last 6 weeks. I've bought from various seedbanks, and observed a clear pattern. And that is that there is no pattern with the seedbanks I have tried! For me, some strains sprouted 100% and other strains from same breeder don't sprout at all. They are all started side by side using exactly the same methods. I don't think the breeders per say, are necessarily dodgy, just some of their seeds(strains) might be older. If I buy again next year, I will be asking for their freshest seeds before placing an order. Better yet, I will try and learn how to clone, and avoid the hit and miss experience I've had with seedbanks.

Cloning is great if you find a good phenotype you would like to keep and not that hard to do at all

But I prefer seeds because every one is a little different & potentially awesome!! Variety is the spice of life so they say  :plant:

Itchy and GSM. I've got a severe case of growers bug, and need to scratch that "learning itch". When my plants are big enough I'll attempt cloning on a few different strains. I've started with over double the plants I need, to allow for any f*ck ups along the way, like the slug at sunrise today that took a liking to cotyledons on 2plants

once you go down the cannabis cultivation rabbit hole , there's no turning back brother

cloning is def a good skill to have in your cultivation toolbox

like everything there are pros & cons

just a matter of choosing the right tool for a given set of criteria

for instance

you have last seasons freshly made seed , then , good environment , water & a peat plug is prob all you need

older seed , then , good environment , soak peat plugs in water & fulvic then pop the seed into a peat plug

really old seed , then , don't try germining all at once (don't put all your eggs in one basket) , soak seed overnight

in water & fulvic then into a plug soaked in the same thing , & so forth & so on

For the past few years i have been relying on a friend for bagseed, some good. some crap. They even gave us a good looking head last year, which tasted ok, but felt like it had 0% THC. The last seeds grew out to look like Sativa and Indica and cloned well with about 70% success. THC guessing maybe 3-5%, but at least it was noticable, tho not long lasting.

Then reading here about supposed availability of OS seed supply of Autoflowers, gave ILGM a go. Not impressed.

So ordered far more than i needed from yaaaaaaaa in byron, arrived in 2 days.

All in to ph adjusted grodan and peat. In my opinion hemp is basically a hardy grass that should thrive with little interference, so if they stick their heads up quickly, ie 2-3-4 days, hopefully they will turn into thriving mature adults, then i can pick the best for cloning before flowering and dump those that don't pass the taste test.

Average germination rate;  AUTO 55%     FEM 65%.  Killed by hoppers 5.

Last week had an unidentified chopper come close to the house and overflew the bagseed clones, could only make out his tail rotor thru the trees as they did a 180 deg turn, altitude maybe 70mts definately less than 100mts, but didn't hang around. I should move them, but bush fires haven't been thru here yet. We have people driving along bush tracks throwing matches every year. They say it makes it easier to spotlight and shoot the pigs from the car. Lost a crop several years ago, now we smell smoke and we're on edge.

So how long before the knock on the door. Should at least get to the quack and get a script to plead a medical defence / arthritis, joint pain, subsequent depression etc, etc.

I'm getting too old for this shit.

I wish I could move to the ACT but the cold exacerbates our medical conditions, never mind the exorbitant cost of housing.

When Qld gave the ok for commercialisation by the moneyed up pharmas, it was a resounding death knell for any backyard growing.

are there power lines in the vicinity? I only ask bcoz I had a similiar experience a few years back being suss about low flying choppers until I found out they were only checking the powerlines

for maintenence reasons not looking for weed . lol I dont like the sound of people randomly throwing lit matches around the bush thats dangerous and irresponsible

Anyway good luck with the seeds

No, no powerlines, being first week of school holidays hoping its army reservist games. But didnt see any airframe except for rotor.

People with matches say its their land and they can do whatever they want with it and I can fuck off back where I came from if I don't like it.

In fact I don't belong here so just fuck off anyway.
