ConvexConepiece
Ok mate, so for those that do want to dechlorinate, would this be a good product?: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/321365031985?ssPageName=STRK:MEWAX:IT&_trksid=p3984.m1423.l2649 I haven't heard of that brand in particular, should do the job. However I am skeptical about their claims Removes ChlorineRemoves AmmoniaRemoves FluorideRemoves Heavy MetalsRemoves Copper, Iron, Zinc and Aluminium I'm calling bullshit on removing heavy metals and flouride. I personally use this brand in my aquarium: http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Seachem-Prime-500ml-Aquarium-Water-Conditioner-for-Fish-Tanks-/290809596093?pt=AU_Pet_Supplies&hash=item43b59a48bd&_uhb=1 Tho you could simply get something like http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Sodium-Thiosulphate-500g-Pure-Crystals-/291067594505?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_3&hash=item43c4fb0709&_uhb=1which would last you probably a lifetime as it doesn't take much. You would use something like http://www.cnykoi.com/calculators/calcdechlor.asp to calc how much to use. The benefit of the liquid solution is that it has other additives to detoxify ammonia as well so is better suited for chloramine water. P.S sodium thio is what's used for cyanide poisoning, you know if you ever were to.... Edited April 11, 2014 by ConvexConepiece

There's many benefits to RO, reducing the starting EC allows you to add more nutes with better ratios before hitting the limits for your strain. Peeps will spend crazy amounts on bullshit additives but they won't invest in a ~$400 RO unit (middle of range) to give their plants the best. *shrugs* Edited April 11, 2014 by ConvexConepiece
Lenore
I'm calling bullshit on removing heavy metals and flouride. Yeah, only way to remove those from water is through reverse osmosis. At least, that's what all the literature I've read has stated so far.
Frank Reynolds
Afaik reverse osmosis doesn't remove all of the minerals as well, from what i remember reading about the de sal plant in vic, is that they need seperate procedures to remove molybdenum from the water supplies as well

pegz
my taper water ec reads 0.8 to 1 ec wich is far to high i think but im using a ro filter That's terrible, I wouldn't drink it. Mine comes out 0.0 ec and usually around 6.3-6.5 pH, perfect for soil but a tad high for hydro. Edited April 12, 2014 by pegz
