Just a thought I had that would help fellow friends and stoners of the forum that have been busted by the police and are destined to go through the courts. If their was an account setup by oz for members to donate money into that can't be touched until a certain member has proven a charge of growing or possessing cannabis, has also meet certain criteria set by mods to qualify for a payment towards court fees.

Haze, it's a generous thought you have there, but you need to consider one thing. Cannabis is illegal in this country, therefore, the risk of growing cannabis is an individuals choice to take. I have no intention of placing a financial burden on members of any community for choices I have personally made.

It's a harsh equivalent, but what you are suggesting is akin to the child porn industry pooling financial aid for the rock spiders that do get caught, sorry bro, just how I see it.

The amount of support shown by this community in relation to members getting busted is phenomenal. But it's support for the soul, not the pocket.

+1 Burner.  The principle is exactly the same, but it would have been preferable if you came up with a different comparison than paedo's.  Nothing they do is even vaguely acceptable, whereas what we do is accepted to some level by society, and does no real harm to anyone else.  It's a nice idea, but I could not bring myself to take money from others to try to get out of the consequences of my own actions.  I would prefer to stand up and say "I did it, and I feel no shame".

There is always the concern of some copper taking a personal dislike to someone and trying to turn a personal grow into a commercial operation, combined with only being able to afford Legal Aid, who then tell you to plead guilty and refuse to defend the bullshit charges.  That sort of situation is where a fund would make sense, but it would be nearly impossible to administer it properly, and how to decide who gets it and who doesn't.  Nice thought though Haze

Fair call burner, maybe an account to raise funds towards a new cannabis awareness day or some sort of rally has to start somewhere, Americans had people who fought for legalisation of cannabis look where they are now. Because a small group of people turned in to a lot, which made some states review the law.

I no we have maradi grass but that's been going for years if something was going to happen would of thought Something to happen by now.

It's good to see people are thinking in a community orientated way and even if peoples ideas aren't perfect they contribute to getting the conversation going which is awesome

I'm sure with a good concrete idea, (be that towards Cannabis awareness or otherwise), people would gladly rally together and support it in financial and other ways. The key though is clear objectives and aims.

I hope to see the conversation develop more.

It would be unfair for the community of Nimbin to host two Mardi Grass festivals a year, but perhaps another community tolerant of peaceful protest against cannabis regulation could be found to host one?

While on the subject of contributing, think it's time I contributed to this site. Been using it as a tool for my growing, and a handy tool it has been:-) Someone want to PM me as to how I can contribute without the use of a CC?

As for the Rock spider comparison, yeah, it was a bit crass, but it was first thing in the morning:-) Perhaps a comparison with the Meth industry would've been better, eh?

It might not look too good if a legal fund was set up via this site as you can be sure the law would try and spin it into financially supoorting an illegal trade and the po po might even want to charge the owners of this site with all our grows.

It might be a different matter though if a fund was set up to fund cutting all the red tape needed to legally have marches in capital cities around the country.  If we could get it legally set up in the cities all on the same day it would end up similar to 4/20 in the USA where the whole country gets down instead of a single small hippy town in rural nsw.

I wonder if we could raise enough money to do our own march plus make a sizable donation to a good cause?  I think it would be quite interesting to see the news if we could organize 10,000+ people in each capital city to march and have everyone donate just a dollar to a good cause like cancer research, a ronald mcdonald house or a needy school.  The media just thinks of us a bunch of jobless hippies who just want to do drugs so throwing them a curve ball like that should shake that image up a little.

We could also get all corporate and just buy some politicians.  The only languages they know are money and power so by buying a few of them with donations could work out well for us.  Dunno whether a lobby group or individuals would be better, but if enough of us joined forces we could definitely fund a politician into power.  The trick then is keeping them on our side.
