Anyone with using Marijuana to relieve Migraines?

Boohiss

Question

Hello

I've suffered from migraines for about thirty years and nothing i've tried cures it.

So does anyone here have actual experience of using MJ to relieve Migraines? If yes what is your advise re dosage, type e.g. More THC, CBN etc or anything relevant.

I must admit to being a bit of a sceptic re medical MJ, my experience with MJ is that it tends to increase how you're feeling e.g feeling happy then you'll be very happy, feeling sad then you'll feel very sad etc

Any comments from people that's actually tried this will be appreciated.

Thanks

I used to have pretty bad migraines fairly frequently in my teen years.

All I can give you is some advice from then...

*As soon as you get the "warning signs" (which are different for everyone, I saw strange "sparks" moving about) get some caffeine into you, quickly.

This seems funny, because regular caffeine use has sometimes been attributed to *causing* headaches, but I found that it alleviated an oncoming migraine and sometimes

even halted them where they were.

Probably because it constricts blood vessels, and the onset of "pain" with a migraine is an expansion thereof.

*Keep your migraine meds at the ready, they work better when you take them early and sometimes avoids/significantly lessens the intensity and duration of the migraine.

*Acupuncture.

I used to get these migraines maybe monthly. For a period I got acupuncture every two weeks around this time.

Some dismiss it as bullshit, some don't. All I can say is that it really decreased the frequency for me.

Happily, I got past a certain age where they just don't happen much any more...I still get them, maybe once a year now, they can still hit me hard, and I hate them despite their infrequency.

In terms of weed, I don't know what type to advise you to take, but I'd recommend you do what you do at the onset of your "warning signs", whatever those may be.

I have myself had an edible at the onset (just a quarter of a firecracker) and that has eased off the symptoms significantly. No nausea, less headache.

So yeah maybe edibles are something to consider.

I thought I bump up this old threat... maybe meanwhile someone has something to ad?

I have been suffering migraines for about 20 years and they seem to be getting worse. I'm now at an average of one migraine attack per week and medication I've been using for years don't seem to be working very well anymore. I'm really worried about them getting even more frequent plus I just can't be off work that often.

High Nexory

I have a bit of experience with migraines throughout my adult life too, they suck.

One of the reasons your meds may not work can be as simple as the changes of your hormones and the ratio's of them in your body (especially if you are 35+yrs old). Sadly for some of us, this is with in the realm of normal.

Smoking different strains on different says can help too. If you smoke only 1 or 2 strains your body gets used to those and does not respond as well to the active ingredients (aka building up tolerance).

My suggestion would be to try out other strains, focus on Indica’s, and if you have the opportunity to try a high CBD strain, DO IT!

BTW welcome to Ozstoners too

Hope you get it figured out mate.

Partner suffers from them - we can thank our stupid government for not allowing the study of it to figure out which strain will help the most.

I plan on doing some CBD strains for my partner as she doesn't like the "stone" feeling very much.

Thanks guys,

Hormones definitely take a part in it. Am approaching 50 and can certainly feel it! In terms of pot I'm completely green. Gave up smoking it decades ago because I couldn't handle the paranoia. So terms like CBD... didn't mean anyhing to me. I did a bit of reading in the past week or so and it sounds as if that's the stuff to go though. No paranoia either?! Plus I too would like to keep the stoned feeling to an absolute minimum. I need to be able to focus and work after all :)

Now does anyone know a place where you can buy seeds in Australia? I've come across a few sites that offer high CBD strains, yet they all seem to be overseas.

Hey Nexory,

Welcome to OS. As you've probably read here, as I've said it before, headpain is very individual and can be an absolute bitch to manage. As Mata states hormones can play a part, but so can anything else from diet, weather, light, noise, stress and everything else in between. Due to this trying to find the 'key' that works for you can take a bit of trial and error. I call this my 'pain management regime' as it varies from the type of pain, location, the intensity, environmental factors and also my plans for the day.

My 'pain management regime' has many elements from pharma crap like panadeine forte, endone, tramal, tamazepam etc and my 'greens'. My 'greens' include a variety of differing strains but within these strains also includes differing forms such as bud, oil and hash. This allows me to mix'n'match my smokes to my needs. I'm not sure how much you have read up about canna, but basically Cannabis has many active ingredients like ( and this is just a few lol )

CBG (Cannabigerol)

CBC (Cannabichromene)

CBL (Cannabicyclol)

CBV (Cannabivarin)

THCV (Tetrahydrocannabivarin)

CBDV (Cannabidivarin)

CBCV (Cannabichromevarin)

CBGV (Cannabigerovarin)

CBGM (Cannabigerol Monomethyl Ether)

All of these vary in quantity depending on strain and form. They all have their own qualities also. For example CBC or CBCV effects include anti-inflammatory and analgesic but has a very low psychoactive effect, so its a painkiller with no high. Where THC or THCV is the primary psychoactive component that gives you the 'high'.

As for the paranoia, I think we all get it when we first start consuming the herb, but once you can get past the paranoia the beneficial properties far out way the negative for me. I've been able to cut the pharma crap right back, I haven't been able to eliminate it from my 'dietery intake' lol but certainly less than I was taking.

There is quite a bit of info here regarding seeds. At the top of this page on the left are some tabs. One is Cannaversity, there is a drop down menu with information regarding differing strains and seedbanks. At the top of the page on the right is a search box, type 'seedbanks' in there and you'll read other members posts regarding their experiences using different seedbanks. If you've ever got a specific query on a subject, that search box is real handy, but sometimes it can give you too much info. In which case it can be easier just to ask us in the forums.

So have a good look around, there is loads of information and some great people on here that are more than willing to assist if you can't find what you are looking for.

Good luck with it all

A lot of great advice here, Merlin said it best. Everyones pain is different. As a fellow sufferer I can say that MJ can help manage the pain. MJ isnt a pain reliever it can however help a pain reliever do its job, Cannabis is a potentiator.

The Indicas can act like a knock out and the sativers will lift mood. So I think the best direction u can head in is 'shopping' for the most useful hybrid, giving u the best of both worlds.
