shape of pot

A question from a newbie; I want to grow organically & was wondering if there is any difference in growing using a round pot compared to a square one or any other shape.

I don't see why there would be a problem. Only thing you'd need to do is ensure the pot is big enough. Don't ask me 'how big', still trying to work that out myself . Edited February 26, 2012 by Mama Cass

Not much to work out, the bigger the pot the bigger the root system hence bigger plant. As far as square or round personal choice.

Shape of pot has no bearing on which way you grow.

G'day Kapow.

The shape has very little to do with how well your plants will grow. Size and depth are the critical factors. I grow in soil, organically, indoors, as I know how to deal with it better than other media, it works for me. The main thing to be aware of is the roots and that they dont get too hot. This can have very serious concequences on your grow, i.e. they all die, this would be an unwanted result. I use square ones, because you can fit more in a given space, these are about 400mm high, and from memory, are 24ltr. I bought these at Inner City Hydro in Melbourne, 10 pots for $50. I would use larger containers except for the size of my shed, and I haven't been able to find extra big square ones, though I haven't looked all that hard.

Thankyou, Thankyou so very much for the feedback. Even though it's a very simple question, it kept me wondering. Square sounds good so i use all my space up, hopefully giving me a better yield.
