7 foot monster

Looking very nice. Lots of frosting, but I would have got rid of those big shade leaves. I've been pruning my plants today, culling all the real small stuff down low and on the inside of the plants that are well into head. I keep these little ones to use in cooking when they are dry so none is wasted.

Mate you have my respect!!!! That is a mighty outdoor plant. It's taller than the fence for fuck's sake!!!:xcited:

Either the neighbours are blind, old, really chill or don't know what the fuck that gorgeous looking, smelly bush is growing next door!

Well done & I sincerely hope you get to keep her!!!

Auntynorm, why get rid of shade leaves when they die off anyway..... They are there for photosynthesizing....

G'day SW. Once the flowering is a week or so under way you want all the nutes, water, sun etc to get to the heads not leaves. I do this every year down here and it seems to work ok, don't take every leaf off the plant, but give them a bloody good hair cut. All the spindly growth I cut away and I find this opens up the plant so the risk of moulds etc are greatly reduced, so more light and air can do their job. Some people will disagree with this and if other methods work for you, great, but here with the days getting shorter real quick, the pruning works well. All I'm really doing is making things happen a bit quicker. Another reason is that by removing the useless bulk of leaf the plants are much less visible, no big fan shaped leaves to give you away or thieving maggots to home in on. The small leaf that is left seems to photosynthesize perfectly well, remember this is all new growth and will be working better than old material.

fair enough aunt however I personally believe that at least the majority of fan leaves should be left on as these are the sun catches which allow the photosynthesis to take place and hence push the energy of the sun from the leaf and into the bud. You take away too many of the fan leaves and I would be surprised if you didn't see a reduction in bud size. But at the same time if you have problems with pest or mould then yes it can be helpful to aid in preventing these problems.

Each to their own I say.

G'day Scraps. When I lived up north I just threw some seed on the ground, added water and away we went, just left 'em to do what came natural. I did this for over 20 years. This worked fine with the tropical weather around Townsville. But after moving back to S.W. Victoria, it's a whole different ball game. The first season was '08-09 and I just let 'em go like up north, big time fail, bugger all at the finish. So I rang a mate up in Townsville, who had grown down here, and it was him who put me onto pruning. Last year was the first time I pruned them really hard after they started flowering and from 6 plants I ended up with nearly 8lb of head. I have a very good position and excellent soil to grow in, and I put a lot of care and effort into my grow. My tallest girl is over 8ft and will be smothered in head come Easter, every day I see good growth. So for down here it seems to work. It may not in the tropics, I must ask my mate to prune one of his and see what happens. He also is an old hand at this. My dog sends her love, she is trying to operate the key board, having a 50lb lump climb on your lap gets your attention. I will post some more pics in Mission Overgrow and you can judge for yourself the merits of this method. In fact one that flowered late I will leave alone, it's the last one in the pics.. The brick fence is 1.8mtrs high. post-33553-0-17017200-1299556520_thumb.jpgpost-33553-0-40109800-1299556611_thumb.jpgpost-33553-0-40329300-1299556707_thumb.jpgpost-33553-0-55407600-1299556793_thumb.jpg
