well, after looking for neem oil for several weeks I was glad to be watching 'Grow your own drugs' where the guy was explaining how to make a home remedy to get rid of head lice, but also described it as general bug killer.

 

Can't remember all details but do remember him saying herbalists should have neem, and then mixing it with some other herbs and oils (lavender was mentioned, as was teatree oil).

 

Might have to see if a local herbalist has a suggestion for pest spray.

I have managed to get neem oil from there in the past. I noticed that they still carry it too, although it might be dependent on which state you are in.

The ones I have seen it in are in Qld.

nearby B didn't have it, despite the lovely young lass advising she was sure it was normally on the shelf.

 

Couple of nearby shops with garden areas told a similar story. Been dropping in to see if it inspired them to order some but no go yet.

Neem oil is a major industry in the Northern Territory

Google it and save heaps by getting it w/sale (bout $30/40 a litre pure)

Has been used as a medicine and contraceptive in India for thousands of years

safe to take internally in small doses for many ailments

A natural pesticide can be found in tomato leaves. Take a bunch of tomato and soak in boiling water overnight and use the water as a pesticide. Works really well.

there r alot of home remedys out there just as good as neem oil.

I ended up picking up some 'eco-neem' from the the big B.

Asked elsewhere about it and it seems to be good stuff but I asked about the warning on the label concerning 'Do NOT USE on plants for human or animal consumption'.

 

I thought the feedback I got suggested I had got good stuff. eco-neem is an extract of neem rather than the normal oil and the way I read the response was that it is more powerful. I'm due, but have not due to indecision, to use it about now. Though I do have pests that are supposedly addressed by such the numbers are not currently too much of a problem, so I've been putting it off.

Yeah and it is poisonous to mammals... like dogs, cats and people. Not to be used on fruit, veg or weed.
