When to plant outdoors in Melbourne?

I'm new here, first post actually. I usually use Grand Final day as a guage of whether or not to plant. If the weather leading up to GF day is good plant the week before, if not the week after. Don't ask why it's just always worked for me. Unfortunately this year I was unable to plant until November so I'm expecting reduced yields, anyway doesn't matter, anything is better than nothing.
