I bought a 1000w HPS, Newfangled shade

Recommended Posts

I liked it enough to buy it, but I hope that all the hype about it is true. I know little to nothing about hot spots, my other light is an all in one Sun System. That has the hammered reflector.

It was a decent price for a new setup, they usually run over $300.

I really hope it's not too good to be true...

The best efficiency for a reflector for HPS bottles is the double parabola or 'batwing' type.

Batwings both duct heat away from the tube and distribute light as evenly as possible owing to the point just above the lamp tube. However, batwings are not small and usually not cheap. If you're clever in the workshop, you can cook one up yourself.

That's the part I worried about. The auction said that this one is better both becuse it's shiny rather than hammered, and because it has "wings" on the ends which are supposed to reflect more light than the batwing...

My box is 1.5 sq meters. So I do need the biggest light... (remember, I do exactly what SS tells me, he found my crazy ass on High Times and took a chance bringing me here. and he said I need a 1000w...^_^!)

Ok so does this mean I got another crappy light??? Can't find a parabolic here, that's what I was looking for when I spotted this one, it seemed the closest thing.

The batwing in the pic looks pretty simple, can I put it together with pop rivets? Just in case this one sux ass? I already have the corner shaped aluminum, and wire. all I would need is some flexable sheet.
