thought id share with you the information this guy gave me when i first asked him about the lights and what convinced me to go for them. tell me if he is filling me with bull crap lol

We don't measure the output of CFL lamps in Lumens. The term lumens is

designed to describe how bright a lamp is and is purely a measurement

of

how well the human eye sees under the light. Lumens are usually used to

rate HPS lamps because most growers are under the impression that the

more lumens a lamp has the better their plants will grow and HPS lamps

do produce a very large lumen count. But I'm afraid to say that in this

case "size doesn't matter".

The problem with HPS lamps is that they emit a wide spectrum of light,

over 70% is in the Infra Red area of the spectrum (heat, that's where

the money goes). Of the remaining 30% half is in part of the spectrum

that your plants can't see. That leaves only 15% of the energy you are

putting into the lamp being used by the plant.

The correct way to measure the output of a grow lamp is in PAR

(Photosynthetically Active Radiation). PAR is the term given to the

area

of the spectrum used by plants. I have already said that HPS lamps emit

only 15% of their energy in the PAR region where as Envirolites emit

100% PAR, that means that all the energy you put into the lamp is used

by the plant.

A 400w HPS lamp therefore provides you with only about 80 watts at most

of PAR energy whereas the Envirolites provide all of their 125, 200 and

250watts as the lamps are rated. This is about as close to an actual

comparison that I can make.

I'm sure this is not the answer you expected, it is one of the most

often asked and never gets any easier to explain.

I can tell you the Lux ratings for each lamp. Lux being the standard

measurement of illumination (as how many lumens fall on a square metre

area), an illumination of 1000 Lux implies that 1000 lumens are falling

on each square metre of area.

125w Envirolite - 6000 Lux

200w Envirolite - 10,720 Lux

250w Envirolite - 17,500 Lux

what do you think ?

remember im a newbie with cannabis :bongon:

One advantage of the HID is that its light will penertrate the canopy far better than a fluorescent so you get a higher yield per plant, the heads develop a lot more under the HID too. Why Lowryder? I know it's a fast growing plant but it doesn't yield all that much and there are nicer strains out there.

My own preference in lighting would be 2 x 400w HPS ballasts running the 430w Son-T-Agro horticultural globes and I would expect 20 - 25 oz of dried mj per crop (a lttle more with new globes, less with older ones), the rest of the grow room would need to be properly set up too of course.

the reason i went for lowryder is it is my first ever grow and was advised to try this and a thought it wouldnt hurt to learn basics while growing LR .as for the lights i will see how they do if they are not doing the job i will invest in some HPS and use the veg enviro lite i have the now as a supplement for when im veggin under the HPS .

im hoping to try blueberry after my LR grow and was thinkin of just using one 250 watt enviro in a space of 16inch width 31 inch length and 30 inch height of course it will only have 2 maybe 3 plants in it as i just dont have the room just now .

also govement coming down hard on uk growers just now lol

LowRyder is perfect for someone with limited space. No mothers or clones to house.

Also since the plant is autoflowering, no worries as to light changes.

They only require half the strength nutes as too much tends to stunt them.

If the grow is just for personal use, then Lr would be just right, especially if one

keeps adding seedlings everytime some get harvested, it would be basically the same as clones,

except for the occasional seed run.
