I think I got the wrong Netpots

Man , that will be fine , as roots will go anywhere Those holes arent too small .

The root systems in dwc tend to be a mass of fine hairs so the small holes aren't really a problem. although I have had netpots split under root pressure in the past. If you're worried 5 minutes with a drill will make enough big holes in there to put your mind at ease anyway.

That's it! I'll drill the holes. Thanks pipeman you gave me an idea there, as I was trying to cut holes with scissors and it wasn't working. A drill will be much quicker.

 

billo - those 140mm ones seem to have a much wider spacing than the 200mm pots even though its the same company, stupid I think. I have one of those 140mm pots and the holes are perfect (what I expected with the 200mm ones)

Well I will be drilling some holes in the bottom and a couple in the sides which shouldnt take too long, that will put my mind at ease anyway.

 

While we are on this topic.. how deep do I submerse them into the tub? I have heard that 1 inch under water is appropriate?

If it's DWC, then an initial water level of just above the base of the pot, like 1 or 2cm deep, is generally recommended, with the final water level at about 2-3cm below the base of the netpot as the roots reach the water and begin to really drink.

 

Make sure you have a good airstone with a long length for maximum diffusion of oxygen as the bubbles break the surface.

dont go drilling the pots ya dil the orchard pots sold now are the reinforced type the older type were weak drilling the holes bigger will make them weaker heres a couple of pics 3.5 weeks from seed think it was in orchad pots i have grown 5 footers in the pots without them breaking u wont have any problems just dont drill them

Those pots look exactly like mine too Gazza, looks like they do work okay afterall. I may not bother drilling holes now, maybe just a few in the bottom.
