I've been living watching over my shoulder for a couple years as the cops were put onto me by a "mate" who lost his mind. i've moved house a few months back and want to start growing again, but have sold all the old system. I want to build what seems to most frequently be called a "Dutch pot" system. It all seems very straight forward, just got one or two questions if anyone can help it might save me some strife and a few bux. I need to drill holes for all the grommett connections. Can anyone tell me what size hole I need to drill, to allow the appropraite grommets to fit into them, for a good water tight fit for 17 and 13 mm pipes? The bloody hole saw are 20 bux e…

Story Title: Growing Challenges in Antarctica Author: GREG ROCKE and DAVID VINYCOMB Story Description: Managing the hydroponic facility at Mawson Station, Antarctica, seemed a fairly straight forward assignment for Australian National Antarctic Research Expeditions (ANARE) expeditioners GREG ROCKE and DAVID VINYCOMB - a chance to keep in touch with things green. However, the diesel mechanic and communications technical officer found maintaining a growing environment on this frozen continent a unique challenge. Well worth the read...

Hi all I've been doing a bit of thinking and I've come to the conclusion I'm obsessed with growing plants in hydro. I'm not just talking about our favorite Ganja weed, but any plants. I've been intersted in gardening for year and used to work in a retail Nursery and do landscaping etc..... so it's not like plants generally are the prob, it's hydro. I'll give you an example. Just last week I deciuded I'd like to have a outdoor greenhouse to grow my own veggies over winter. Went to Bunnings and picked up a cheap one (~ 2m x 2.5m x 2.5m). Once I had it I couldn't even think of planting them in soil, it was straight to the hydro shop. Another $500 later and I've now got 2…

The F&D Image Sorry I can’t post flash images into here..... This is just for some of the curious people out there that I figured would like an explanation of this type of system (Plus easiest of the systems to do the image for ). The Flood and Drain (F&D) systems use a basic dunking effect at regular intervals to provide moisture to the root mass of the plants. In order for this to be at the right time intervals and for the right amount of time flooding it is mainly an experimental affair so times provided will only be a guide within this article. CONSTRUCTION HINTS As you can see from the image the system contains 2 main tanks and a plant tray below…

I have noticed that people talk about flushing their plants regularly with fresh water, and it seems to be offered as a "fix-it" for a lot of peoples problems. I have been growing hydroponically since 1976 and I worked in the Hydroponics industry for 15 years, so I am not just pulling this advice out of nowhere. Do not think that a hydroponic system for indoors is any different to a hydroponic system for outdoors, hydroponics is hydroponics and the people to learn from are the growers who grow multi million dollar crops for a living. If you look at what commercial growers do worldwide you will find that they do not flush their plants with fresh water. It stresses them. If…

What water should i use ? I'm thinking the rain water would be best because it has the lowest ppm or the dam water for the lower ph. Thanks in advance.

Hello to all the incredibly helpful people who have taken the time to answer my questions and give their advice on my last post. I'm feeling very confident about the growroom now and am going shopping this week!!! Pics will be posted of the construction and I'll even try to do it as a tute. My new question is about SCROG growing. I was initially confused about SCROG and SOG and now understand that I don't want the upkeep and hassle of a SOG, and the turnover rate is not important - I'm shooting for quality and yield for perse. The SCROG system intrigues me and I want to give it a go but I'm not able to find any topics that address the best delivery systems for i…

I started my 6 seeds in distilled water. After 2 days, 2 have cracked and 4 have not. QUESTIONS: 1) When I transplant my cracked seeds to rockwool, should I keep them in the dark until a tip sprouts or go directly to 18-24 hours flourescent light! 2) Should my drip system drip or run a steady flow of water! (URL Below) http://www.landmsales.com/6_plant_drip.htm Reason for question #2 is that my 130gph pump for my 10 gallon reservoir with 6 (3" net pots) has high and low adjustments. The low adjustment still runs the water at a slow stream and not a drip. IS THAT COMMON or is my pump pumping too MUCH WATER? Any help is beneficial as it is a 1st grow! …
