WA police raid targets Outlaws expansion

Recommended Posts

Simultaneous raids on the homes of four alleged WA-based Outlaws Motorcycle Club associates uncovered drugs, guns and paraphernalia linking the men to the international bike club.

Gang response officers seized two rifles, a silencer, ammunition and small quantities of ecstasy and cannabis from homes in Balga, Maida Vale, Eden Hill and Gidgegannup during yesterday morning’s raids.

They also found banners and T-shirts bearing Outlaws slogans and the black and white club patch — a small skull and crossed pistons dubbed Charlie. The raids led police to charge two men with firearms and minor drug offences. Gang response unit Det-Sen. Const. Sean Gartlan said police did not have to use force to gain entry to the houses.

“The people we spoke to today have, from our information, links to a motorcycle gang which is mostly based in the Eastern States,” Sen. Const. Gartlan said.

But one of the four men, who did not want his name used and was not charged with any offences, denied that the local group was a chapter of the Outlaws and said they had just formed a social club.

He said the men knew and had participated in club rides with Outlaws members but none was a nominee or patch-wearing member.

The man would not comment on whether the group had ambitions to become a prospect chapter of the Outlaws, saying that was a matter for senior club members to decide.

Media speculate one of the men was a member of an Eastern States-based bike club before he moved to WA.

That man, who will be charged by summons for firearms offences, lives in a Balga house which is a regular meeting point for the local club.

The Outlaws is one of the oldest and biggest bike clubs in the world, with chapters in America, Europe and Australia.

The club has chapters in the Eastern States, with clubhouses in Melbourne, Brisbane, Sydney and Launceston.
