Medical Access

Question

A couple of months ago I asked my GP about obtaining cannabis to treat my ongoing symptoms.

"Ohh ahhh, I don't know anything about the processes, I wouldn't know where to start..."

Being that I'm in SA and there being no clinic's here (our state Gov't (Liberal) still have their heads buried firmly up their own arses)  I thought the whole process would be a waste of time

I went investigating and found a clinic in NSW, who would go through the whole process online.

So after a couple of weeks of paperwork both from myself and my GP, today I got the call from the clinic and have had the initial approval.

I now have to obtain the approval from the TGA but from what I've been told this should not be a problem and should take less than a week.

The Dr I spoke to has told me that what he would be prescribing is a CBD and THC combination as my situation is pain related.

I asked the Dr about the cost of the medication itself as it is NOT on the PBS and I have to say it is NOT cheap.

The Dr himself would not actually tell me a defined cost but advised me to call the chemist in Victoria.

Upon doing so I was told $270/50ml + postage ($30), so $300 delivered. First thought "Fuck, it'd be cheaper to go buy an ounce" but have decided to follow through with the process.

At this point I have not been told of the recommended dosages, so how long that 50ml is going to last I am unsure.

I am also unsure if I may be able to get my local chemist to get it in for me or whether it needs to come from an approved compounding chemist, solely in Victoria.

So the processes have been started. The dr and the prepaid TGA approvals have cost me $550 so far (that's without the script itself), so let's see how much more it's gonna cost

When I have any further info I will let you all know.

Just thought others maybe interested

Vaping oil is not allowed as far as I am aware, would love to be shown I am wrong there!

Mick

Hey Mick,

Just for your information

There are a couple of differing vegetable oils. MCT or Medium chain triglycerides and VG or vegetable glycerine are two such oils

As Champlain is an MCT oil, it can't be safely smoked or vaped. VG oil is derived from sugar cane or sucrose and can be vaped.

Now if the 'active ingredients' were suspended in a pure alcohol ie Iso, rather than MCT oil, smoking it would not be so much of an issue.

Smoking is seen as a big no, no by the medical fraternity and I believe this is why the oils are offered as a first option as no smoking involved.

Thanks Mick

I try to gain as much info as I can on a subject and if I have the info then I share it around.

Over the years others here have assisted me greatly and I have no issue in passing that assistance on to others, in fact I feel obligated to do so, hence this topic.

There's lots of 'Ohh I know, I know...' out there, when in reality they don't know shit. It's only what they have heard.

My info doesn't come from a book or hearsay. My info comes from my own experiences ie making my own oils and tinctures and my own research/experimentation.

Merl1n,

As both a consumer and (once) clinician I believe that there is a clear clinical role for vaping cannabis oil as a form of breakthrough pain control when using an oral oil for maintenance.

I know its early days but there are some real oversights in our medicinal cannabis situation at the moment.

"....there are some real oversights in our medicinal cannabis situation at the moment."

Ohh Hell Yea.

Personally I think the present system is just there to placate the canna advocates (Shut them up) like, "Well, at least we're doing something..."

The Fed govt will drag it out for as long as they can get away with it, blaming everybody else for the lack of progress ie 'It's a state matter...' and yet federally it's still classed as an illicit substance. It really is a joke.

EDIT:

Later this afternoon received a  Dr's review call.

Now normally this would cost $80, but the cost has dropped to $50 for the consult

The dr has now written scripts for double the quantity, so now 10gm/script with 5 repeats and no further review for 6 mths

I haven't called the chemist to confirm, but I believe this will double the cost when I order a new script with double the amount.

Hi Merl how's the pain going mate hope the canna oil is starting to work better for you now an you have been able to sort out the right mix of med's an canna you need, But hey I know every day is different  from the last one an what works one day may not work the next day .Some day more pharma med's are needed to get on top of the chronic pain an other days you need more canna med's.

In the past few weeks the pain has been most of the time none stop at about 7% to 8% my sleep  has turned to shit some time no sleep for 2 -3 days at a time then crash for about 1 day an a half.

Anyway enough of my dribble.

I checked on the 40ml bottle of tilray 10% thc x 10%cbd an it say's it has carrier oil =MCT [ coconut oil ].

An the 25ml bottles of Tilray 10%cbd X 10%thc, they use grapeseed oil as the carrier oil.

The coconut oil taste crap ,but the grapeseed oil is very nice.

The 40ml bottle of the Tilray 10%thc x 10%cbd cost me $145.00 with postage so it was $25.00 postage costs .sorry crew if this post is a we bit  all over the place  .lol This old fart is a we bit ripped ya could say.

All the best to ya all .

Regards.Dingo-2008.

Hey Dingo,

Pain?? agghh, it's manageable. 'Dose me up' lol . With the meds it's always been a case of 'Mix'n'Match' for that day and yea, no 2 are the same. As I've often said "...it's all shit, it's just the depth that varies..."  But you know that yourself.

A few choofs, a bit of oil.... ...ahhh mello…  ...and the bonus less opiates.

My first oil, Capilano, was an MCT carrier but it wasn't coconut oil.

MCT is a medium chain triglyceride, but this one is non allergenic seemingly. Some people can be allergic to coconut oil.

WHAT???!!!??? He's only a wee bit ripped... …. ...I think he needs a wee bit more then lol lol lol
