how?

Recommended Posts

Gidday,

I have a cactus that my mrs gave me, its made up of small balls that are spiky.

I dont know its name and cant find a pic of it anywhere.

Anyways it has started to flower and has the most georgeous red flowers on it.

But what do I do to get this thing to seed??

Also A neighbour has a cactus that looks like those ones in the cowboy movies B).

its columns that are as tall as his house.

So if anyone knows a good site with pics of common cactus etc I would appreciate the links.

Cheers :reallyexcited:

the first this about cacti propagation is knowing what your dealing with, some cacti are self pollenating ( peyote for instance ) where as some cacti need to be manually pollenated buy a person or nature in some way, for best results you want to not cross breed your cacti ,

Pollenating a cacti can be a little tricky depending on species though as some cacti only leave you a 24 hour window to pollenate them inorder to produce seed, after that the flowers are not good for much more than collecting pollen or looking at ,

Mind you breeding cacti really pays off seedwise I have more seeds than I know what to do with :peace:
