Help! About to lose my tree

Black shells and ants. Yep loss a few plants before figured out crush those black shells, the ants go crazy and then blast the ants of with power hose. Worked for me. The black helmet things seem to eat into the stems and kill them. I'm in SEQ as well

i get those as well, but not too many this year.  Certainly hasnt killed the plant and I dont think they would unless you had a major infestation..
