the whole use it as is sounds easiest.... do i rinse it through tap water to remove the excess sand and salt and then dry it out ?

prob is kelp , could also be the same or a mix of different species which would be good 

 

no need to wash it as i understand it , salt is just a bunch of minerals anyway 

if it makes you feel more comfortable give it a rinse ,

 

i should also say i've never taken kelp / seaweed from the beach & tried it so not

speaking from experience here

yeah that was me mentioning it being illegal to take from the beach 

that was the plan , to do what you just did but the mate i asked 

to collect some told me about a sign up at his local beach saying it was a no no
