Which pots to grow in

Recommended Posts

Hey there,

So I am very excited to be shortly staring my very first grow. I have been doing my research and getting all my equipment together.

I am just wondering what pots are best to grow in and what sizes to use.

I have been looking into the smart (fabric) pots, I'm just wondering if they are worth buying. The downside (from the research I have done) is that A. Your plants need watering more often and B. You need to make your pots double the size because your soil can dry out rather quickly. I just want to know from anyone that has used these what they actually think about using them.

Also the size of the pots is confusing me along with when and how often to transplant into bigger pots. Does anyone have a ratio for how big their plant is to how big their pot and how much soil their plants needs?

I have also decided to grow in coco peat, has anyone used peat pots to germinate in before? I like the idea of being able to put them straight into a bigger pot without having to transplant from one pot to another and avoid early transplant shock.

Let me know what you all think.

Cheers

Smart pots (the ones with ridges and holes on the outside) made from plastic are fairly popular. Look them up.

You only need a 10-15l pot grow an adequate sized indoor plant, if not a biggun.

I germinate in peat pellets then into a small pot, then my final pot, once the plant gets to about a foot.

I love smart pots, and I am a coco grower too

I started with 5gallon (about 19L) pots but upgraded to 7gallon. I like 7gallon better because they are wider than the 5gal pots.

I dont reuse them, tried to wash one, did not come clean enough -that is a big downside.

You'll need a basin to catch your run off.

I start seeds in a 1L plastic pot then transfer to their final pot when I feel like it/they grow too big.

The hardest thing is not to overwater the plant, especially when young.
