Dehumidifier's Who Run's One?

Recommended Posts

Just picked up my first dehumidifier i had no clue as to how they work i thought they ran cool air and some how removed the water from the air, mine is like a small heater, RH was 86% and it is now 69% over around 15mins

unsure what to set mine at, i bought it to stop the moldy buds i have encountered in the past

it uses quiet a bit of power close to 400watts so i think i may only need it in the last 2 weeks of flower

it was under $100 or lose big main colars

Yeah i use one & yes part of dehumidification is heating

as heat go's up humidity go's down , harder to run in small rooms

but you can make it work with temp dependent exhaust , hit a temp

exhaust go's on , drop below & exhaust off

generally you use them at night / lights out , when humidity

is at it's highest , which is good for keeping night temps from dropping to low

you need to pipe the runoff outside otherwise it will fill

& shut off if not checked easier not to have to check

the rez all the time , but you can do that 2 , just check & empty B4 lights out , Everyday !

i set mine under 50%( around 30-35 ) , machine will say one humidity & your hygrometer

in the room will say higher generally so you'll have to work that out to find

a happy sweet spot in your room

it's not strange to have a du-hue & split system working at the same time

during lights on , exy

i just did exactly that for drying ( lights off )  , keeping humidity under 50 & temps under 26c

handy tool , Environment is key in any indoor / greenhouse growing , get that right & lots of probs vanish

Made heaps of sense itchy thanks, i didn't even give it a thought on using it when drying so that will be handy,i think the lowest RH is 50% but at that percentage it shouldn't produce any mold

my growing area doesn't have fresh ventilation to outside or intake to outside so i need to rely on what flows thru the room by open windows etc.. so the humidifier will be handy, i checked it last night 480watts tho to run it!!!

something to keep in mind when dragging fresh air in

all depends on what's going on outside , if it's pissing down

your dragging high humidity in the room making the de-hue

work harder , sometimes better if you can , rather than exhaust

being triggered by heat maybe trigger a air con instead in those times

look into sealed grow rooms

sealed rooms can be good for consistency , if you run a living soil

all the organic matter being broken down creates CO2 build up in the room

just seen a vid with a lill below 1000ppm of CO2 in a sealed room without a CO2 tank

just through top dressing aka composting with worms in the pot in the room

when you get a handle on environment , yield becomes very important

because environmental control , when added to lights nutes ect ect , isn't cheap

I can't use any thing in the house that's going to pong other than what i am growing lol, pretty much my growing space is all i have space for really, towards end of flower i might try one of those Co2 bottles and close off the room for the last week or two i will need to look into them

on previous grows i have encountered mold around day 48-50 on wards but i need to be careful and catch the humidity before the buds tighten

wasn't suggesting you go out & get CO2 bottle

just making the point there are many ways to skin a cat

a sealed room can offer something diff to a none sealed room

like if your a organic grower you can use your soil to make CO2

& possibly not have to buy all that is needed to run CO2 not to mention the

constant bottle replacement cost

the environment is the deciding factor to most issues like mould

high heat & humidity can = mould , high heat = spider mite & other bugs

breed at an increased rate  , consistent controlled environment = less probs

however you work that , sealed or not

Yeah all good mate i had always known about closed off GR's, i had panned on closing the door and window late in flower just so i can hopefully avoid the dreaded mold so in my last week or two i will be doing this and running the Co2 bottle only the cheap $50 one that u mix in water and give it a shake, i may later on look into the aquarium Co2 cylinders on ebay i calculated one the other week to last 1.5 grows growing auto's so it would be handy i just need to keep the health side within check

if you have to leave windows open you can become susceptible to bugs

maybe a bug zapper might be handy https://www.bunnings.com.au/bug-vac-flying-insect-trapper_p3340131

this is not a zapper , the light attracts the bugs & with a water rez a fan blows the bugs in the water to drown

it's pretty low light & no Bzzzzzt flash as they die

bug trapper/zapper is my next purchase from bunnings , the moths need to die at my house , they like my canna

to much , flying stoner Mo Fo's & there asshole pillar babies

good luck with it mate
