Hi Fellow Aussies. First time poster here and was wondering if anyone here has tried or have any advice on panels purchased direct from China?

Has there been any posts referring to these lights and the quality of end product?

I have some input with respect to these panels but would like some input before I getting into my rant.

Hi Geoff. Im a COMPLETE newbie to all things regarding growing and have been doing some research on LED. it appears as though most forum and threads discussing LED lights will always have the skeptic HID enthusiast who has tried LED lights and didnt have a good result, but from what iv read, its all about growing style, and when it comes to LED one must adjust their growing technique to suit the LED light, but for those familiar with HID lighting who have been doing it for years, its difficult to adjust your growing style to suit the new setup.

Regarding China LED panels, i know just before last year they were mostly crap and the output was not what was listed, which is sadly what gave the chinese LED panels a bad reputation, however as technology has been updated, so have the cheap panels on Ebay..(funnily enough even the expensive panels are often made in china, sometimes at the same factory lol) - but from what i have read, you should try and stick with 2 names when buying the cheaper LEDS - those been

The MarsHydro and the Hydrostar reflector - and two main sellers with good reputations are marshydro-au and TOPLEDSELLER

I have a few bids on a couple, im trying to get 3 x 300W panels for around $300 so $100 each.

Check out this Blog/diary of a few guys using the Mars Hydro from the mars hydro website - http://www.rollitup.org/t/marshydro-led-grow.839368/

there turn out was pretty impressive.

i have to dissagree the 3x100 or 300w LED's are total shit house save your buxs, im running two now and the rated 2x2 foot print is all bullshit my lights are 12 inches above the clones and all im seeing is tiny growth the leafs are small the tips are small but they are dark green thats the only good thing going

the thing with the LED's are they dont produce enough heat for your plants to transpire water thru the leaves

the 300w single light will cover 50x35cm litterly, they are shit i took the gamble and nothing has changed

maybe the 5watt diod lights would be better but im not going to chance it

the 300w LED would be a great light for a mother plant or pre veg where u need to slow things down but as a main veg/flowering lamp they leave much to be desired

i purchased the LED as a fire hazard saftey thingy over HID during the warmer months if i could get back my $250 i would have bought 2x300w CFL's or 4x125w CFL's, ultimatly a 400-600w HPS is going to kick ass but these LED's still have a long way to go even with the epistar chips

Ahh damn really? Did you get the reflector editions (with the veg / growth switch) or just the standard. I have been reading some diarys of some LED growers who are having great results BUT they seem to have the same light, so although i was happy with the "mars hydro full spec" light, perhaps the cheap one i was eyeing off was the old model... May i ask when did you buy yours, and where from? does it have a brand or label on it at all? Just so i can be cautious to avoid buying the same one lol... Sadly i dont think i would be able to have a HID light unless i brought a portable aircon unit. In WA the summers reach close to 40 degrees, so in the garage, inside a tent its gonna be stinking hot, way to hot for any form of light which gives off heat.

I have heaps of photography bulbs which are CFL 45W per bulb, plus a few of the photography lamp kits, so perhaps combining the LED with extra CFL will show some decent results?

My plan is two 300W full spectrum infared light panels hanging from above (after reading your comment i wont be taking chances with any other LED, from any other seller appart from the exact model of the guy iv been following whos had great results)

four double lamp attatchments (from the photography lamps) http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Twin-EU-E27-Socket-2x-Bulb-Holder-Swivel-Flash-Umbrella-Bracket-Photo-Lamp-Light-/301226701266?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item462282b1d2

all with 45 Watt energy saving photography Globes http://www.ebay.com.au/itm/Photography-Daylight-Video-Studio-Continuous-CFL-light-Lamp-Bulbs-5500K-45W-E27-/251672630664?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_15&hash=item3a98db9588

and the centre of the plants i plan to use UV light globes in a shitty old Ikea lamp i found.... its pretty much a pole with 3 lamp sockets

i may have to mix the globes around  a bit, but hopefully it will provide that little bit extra for better yeild.

I just realised the guy on the thread iv been following actually brought his LED from the website rather than Ebay, but im guessing its pretty much the same stock.... heres the website

lets just say im running two of the mars hydro LED lights i wont mention where or when i bought them

i placed both lamps around 50cm above the plants and growth was very slow the plants had a small sad look to them, i than moved the light to around 30cm and now im getting some growth and the plants have perked up but the lights cover fuck all foot print at this height and using 200watts there abouts is just a waste, combining both lights they only cover 50x70cm there abouts for 400watts, the good thing is they dont produce much heat i think thats the only good thing

as u have pictured probably be better off with a bigger LED light to cover more space or put a 300w CFL in the middle of the LED lights

I have seen grows under quality US build LED panels and they do quite well, I look at it like this, would you put a cheap china HID bulb in your grow room and expect 1g per watt? No so why would you buy a cheap china LED and expect it to be awesome? If you are to get LED panels for growing you need to lay out big time, the ones i saw were over $1500 each! but the grower swears by them and yields are not to bad at all, my other foaf got china ones and they were just...average

just my 2c worth hear

I can see exactly where you coming from, and agree to a certain extent but alot of the chinese LED lights have done a change over, and according to this thread,http://www.rollitup.org/t/marshydro-led-grow.839368/page-26#post-11036252 theirs a fair few happy growers with successful results.

but thats where it becomes difficult to select which light - i do beleive the thread was for the "reflective" LED light, so i purchase the standard "Old" LED light (which has the crappy reviews) aswell as the new reflector LED light and they look very different,
