heater advice

just wondering if u can use a heater which is used in aquariums. i went and priced one and they seem to be alot cheaper then the ones from a hydro shop. and can anyone tell me how many wattage is needed in a resevoir tank of around 70 litres. any other advice will be gratefiul.

A 150w should do it but I would use a 200w to be on the safe side.

so are the aquirium heaters ok to use . are they the same. and as safe.

Yeah, they are the same thing, designed to keep water/reservoirs/home brew at the set temperature.

NEVER allow the water to run dry enough to have any part of the heater in air.

They explode and can cause fires.

 

I had one explode, and they do explode not just crack. There were pieces of glass everywhere.

Yeah good point Ferengi, sit the heater along the bottom of the reservoir and set the pump so that it cannot empty out the last one or two inches.

Or a float valve set up to a secondary feeder reservoir could do the work for ya. Keeps the level steady.

 

Gotta think about a heater myself actually, how much were these ones you are referring to gilly?

got this one from an aquirium shop for $47.95 (150w). the guy at the hydro shop was trying to sell me a 50w for $70 . so check out your local aquiriunm shop shoulg be alot cheaper .
