We appreciate being given the opportunity to formally present the issues that we stand for to a federal parliamentary party. No other party has ever extended any such invitation to us since we were established in 1999. The HEMP Party is a moderate, middle of the road, and pragmatic political party. We would initially want to remove all of the red tape which has been preventing the establishment of a viable industrial industrial hemp industry in Australia. At present all hemp fibre products are imported. In the same vein we would also have the current laws, banning the use of hemp seed as a food for human consumption, repealed. Hemp seed has long been a legal and nutritious component of bird food. Once these obvious reforms have been achieved, we would then like to see legislation which would allow easy and affordable access to a properly formulated, locally made, Cannabis tincture to those many ordinary Australians who are in dire need of this type of medicine. Currently the only product, which partially meets these needs, is made in the United Kingdom, and is controlled by ‘big pharma’. Thus it is very expensive and difficult to obtain. These are the reforms that we hope PUP might be able represent on our behalf in the Parliament of Australia. Of course we would like to see the police persecution imposed on those other ordinary Australians who partake of Cannabis for simple pleasure, ended. Those reforms we can put off until another day when Australia, belatedly, catches up with the United States. We look forward to meeting with you in Canberra. There website policies priorities are written very differently from that letter above outlining there objectives to the PUP. Why would a hemp product industry be there first objective, before terminally and chronically ill people being given access to Medical cannabis? 70%-90% of the population support medical cannabis, to me, that's the way forward for cannabis reform, with large popular support. They say the only Tincture is from the UK, yet they are aware of Mullaway's. That makes no sense to me. I was thinking of joining this party but now I'm not so sure. They seem to be putting big business ( Hemp production of fibre and seeds) ahead of serious medical needs of patients and legalization for all. Also what's with the photo-shopped image of Palmer press conference with hemp party images, carrots and Tony Abbot image on a Mardi Grass poster. It maybe a bit of fun, but doesn't help to create a sense of seriousness and credibility for the Hemp party. We might see some progress towards legalisation and actually tackle the real drug issues in this country like meth.
