LED lights where are we now?

Recommended Posts

Well here we go again. I am more than likely in the wrong place with this question but oh well here we go again. I wont to know what people thoughts are on LED in general and in particular to the MARS II led grow light?

I have found so much information on this light on other forums (#nofreeplugs) but am totally struggling to find any info on this forum. I like this forum due to it being for Aust. stoners & growers. And therefor look to my comrades for support and or information.

I currently run a couple of LED lights from advancedledlights and although I am extremely happy with these lights I just find them a touch on the expensive side. So I have started to look around and found allot of info on the MARS with grow journals and diary's but nothing on here. Is this because 90% of people on here are using the old HPS & HIDS or the magical Sun or is it that people are scared to tell people they use LED :) I know when I was asking about LED lights 3 years ago people told me not to waste my money and it would not work but I am here still and it is working fine for me.

Any input or info on this would be a great help I don't care if it is positive or negative just try to make it constructive for any one that may read this thread.

I thank you all in advance

Dave

Thanks for the reply guys. In regards to stats well I cannot give a great deal yet as I have only been doing Autos for the first 5 grows. Up to 6 plants under 2 UFO's from advancedledlights.com they are 120watt and do the job. Yeilds average between 1-2oz per plant with autos which is what is expected.

I am doing my first real grow now with Silver LA pulled down the first plant still hanging so have to wait on a weight from that but still just under the 2 UFO's. I am a simple grower for personal use only so I grow in soil chemical free. I use a 1.2 X 1.2 X 2 meter tent and have 4 young clones of Silver waiting to go in once I purchase another light. From what I have learnt and read allot of over the internet you only get an average of 0.5gr per watt with HID and 1gr per watt for LED, I cannot confirm this as I have not grown with both.

I understand allot people not trying LED's due to not being able to buy them here in a store. You have to take the plunge to try. Just wanted to see if anyone in Aust. had any news or reports. I will check out the link provided by billygoat and see whats happening there.

I appreciate all feed back and comments so thanks for that guys. If you have any question for me don't hold back, I will help where I can :)

Unfortunately LED technology still has a way to go.

The prices are still high BUT they are slowly coming down....

Theres still a few design flaws in my mind - most don't have replaceable globes (without soldering work), and they still lack the penetration to get right down into the canopy and produce DENSE buds.

Good for veg tho still yet to see a flowering plant that comes close to traditional HPS

One day things will change, next decade I hope.

Oh and as for your comment about not being able to buy in stores.... actually you can. Aquarium stores stock a good range these days, many are now designed specifically for growing plants in freshwater.

I have one from http://www.daluaaustralia.com.au/ they are based in perth.

I use HID lighting and currently would not consider using LED's.

GPW is not a great way to measure yield (because of variations in veg and flower time) but in general a beginner should find it easy to get 0.5 gpw from a HID light and with some experience easily increase this by 50% if not more. I have not seen similar results from led lights (I do realise things exist that i have not seen) and I think the average grower would struggle to achieve anything close to the 1 gpw you mentioned.

Having said that, I wish you good luck and I'd love to see what you can do with them. It would be great to see a completed grow here using led lights alone. Many led grows here either add other lights to the grow or do not complete the cycle.

Naycha :peace:

Hey it is illegal to grow after all, if it was a perfect world i'd fuck off all lighting and grow in greenhouses.

So seeing as I am risking my ass and spending a shit load of cash and not even producing enough to keep myself and my family in free smoke with hid why would I switch to something that has in no way be proven to be more efficient in any way for production of cannabis flowers?

Yield matters, even if you aren't growing commercially.
