Water Flow

this is probably a stupid question but how do you controll water flow when growing in a hydroponic set up is it contstantly flowing is it done at an automated time or is it done manually please forgive the simplicity of the question I am just trying to get a proper grasp on Hydroponics if you have links to some good tutorials or whatever that would be great as well

I plug my pump into a digital timer.

ok when you say digital timer I understand but how long do you pump the water for and how often is it a constant flow of nutrients or is it something you set to run for a short period of time every few days or when it needs it

It also depends on the type of system you are running, I use run-to-waste so my running times are different to some one using one of the several types of recirculating systems that are again different to each other.

I am not going to be recirculating the water so for someone who is just wanting to have a one way watering system what do you recomend or can you give me an exaple of what you do

I have read stuff like the wick tek but am after something a little better as I can't see that system working all that well

I use flood and drain, and my pumps are connected to analog timers set to run for 15 minutes every 2 hours, except at night when they dont get any water.

any other sugestions with differnet messures are still muchly appreciated as I am looking for what will be the best option for my plants

When I had an NFT system it was constant at about 1lt per minute. My recirculating system I use 4 x half hour feeds in a 24 hr period and all is good.
