how much is the "crap of the crop" valued here?

I'm interested in cannabutter and "trichome farming" because smoking wouldn't suit me in all settings and I like the idea of using more of the plant and using it well.

Just wondering: is the trimming generally thrown away, or generally used for these things?

Personally I think the best thing for trim is hash.  Cannabutter made with leaf gives me a sleepy high and you can't fully get the nasty leaf taste out.  Oil is a great option but you still end up with a bit of the leafy taste in there.  Hash physically separates the trichomes from the plant material though making it just as good as hash made from buds.

As doc said we use our trim for oil and hash.

 

Like anything if done rite way you get no leafy taste in oil, last lot of oil i made was a very nice taste with no leaf taste to it in any way...

Yep. I've been using my leafy trimmings to make butter. Next batch will be all trim. Mmmmmmmm trichomey!

did some research, advice looks very good, thanks. Quite like cold water extraction, I think - simple enough for me to attend, and efficient in extracting.

When you say oil, do you mean oil-based extraction (so you end up with thc-infused vegetable oil?)

Oil extraction is done by butane or a solvent for most DIY'ers, a lot of safty is needed when doing these.

 

What u end up with in the end in all canna oil, like anything it is only as good as what goes into making it.

I just made some hash yesterday using bubble bags. I used all the trim and some small useless buds and got 5 grams of some nice greenish looking hash from 25 micro bag.
