Can I Put Rocks Done

my plant is in a 3 gallon bucket with compose and poting mix.,

 

I am moving her to a new area and i want to know if i can lay rocks down on top of the soil and around the main steam,

 

the reason is because i want the soil to hold in water better, because i will not be able to moniter the soil like i do now, so i finguar to lay down some rocks so the sun will not be direct, and when it rains the water will still be able to reasch the soil no problem.

 

is this a good idea, or does anyone got a better plz let me know.

well if you dig a small hole 2 allow your planter to sit in it.

yopu can cover it with just about anything . Moss, Or Indoor /outdoor carpet works nice . it will keep the sun from drying it out .

but it will be cool 2 see what everyone else says.

Yeah a good idea is burying it and Id go for an inch of sand under the pot and as your top layer instead of rocks - rocks should be fine though [burying it helps a lot].
