Seedling - Water. Under Fluoros

I have 2 unknowns under a 16W (55W output) cool white globe and a 35W cool white fluoros.

 

I just put them in styrofoam cups and under the lights, they have big 'round' leaves, and 1 has a 'true' leaf coming out.

 

I was wondering how when i should water them...?

A simple way to tell when to water a small amount of soil is to fill up another cup with dry soil and test each for weight. Its not abnormal to wait a week between the first watering in a water-holding medium such as peat. Water just before it dries out anyway.

 

If you want a free tip then use immersion feeding for the first few times at least. put the cup in a bucket of ph neutral water slowly until the top is moist then pull it out and watch it suck air into the medium as it quickly loses the water [makes it more certin to have an aerated and evenly saturated medium].

 

If your cups arent drying out within a week then introduce some heat to them to help dry the medium out and boost root growth [25C is great].

I assume you poked some holes in the bottom of those cups for drainage

someone told me not to water the seedlings too much coz then the roots go searching for moisture.

What kind of media is it? That makes a huge diff.
