hi glad to see some sensible discussion and input....... :egyptdance:

Blunty .... notice no one in the thread actually had any experience pulling good yield with LED? sure it will grow ok in veg , sure it will get you some bud , but where are the aussies pulling the pounds out of leds?

Thanks for your input, I'm not pulling pounds out of HID either, must be doing something wrong, somewhere, just thought about experimenting with something different, I thought it might be the heat getting to the plants, I know it gets hot over in the West, but do you get the humidity that we get in Qld. As I said previously I have a mate that is willing to build me a LED set up

I'd be worried if amyone here was "pulling pounds" - glad you have a friend to cover the most expensive area of a full LED grow ... I won't kid around but will say "I have seen in person a grow completed to a persy growers satisfaction but it was flowered using a 250w HPS" ................. as blunty pointed out completed full LED mega grows are undocumented - my point is thers no halm in trying and being the first.

Experiment well

I would actually be the first to jump onboard if LED's manufacturers could actually back up their bullshit. I think as with most horticultural lighting, if its not being used wide scale by the industry itself, then really, its gone nowhere. maybe industry use it for vegetive growth......somewhere....but for flower they just not cutting it.

Large scale production hydroponic growers would LOVE to have a source of light that was cheaper and worked just as well as HID, and they'd be using it to cut costs.

I just really hate seeing people come on site, get told LED is the wave of the future, they buy a sub-standard panel, and are SOOO dissapointed with the results they never get to have a crack with HID's.... thats a damn shame. 1)They blew their money 2) They lose heart.

Dunno about you, but I wanna come onto a site full of good grows, not some mediocre high school science dealio......

I actually want people to see if ANY LED panels pass the Australian Standards...........I can tell ya now they don't...reason- To pass AS your product MUST do what it says on the box, not in "Theory". No LED panel to date can do this.

I research all sorts of lighting, being into Electronics it's a hobby of mine. I'd have a Plasma lamp right now, if ya didn't have to suppliment it with a HID. So why buy a panel of LED's ya have to do the same for? The light either has the right spectrums or not..theres no in-betweens.

One day I hope LED's cut the mustard, would be great, low power usage, low heat for summer, customized spectrums to plants needs. Lovely.

I'll keep my eyes open, and if I see something that looks the goods I'll let ya know.....but I been looking for years already..........

Peace. Nibbler.

As bluntman said, a lot of risk.

Jemma if you want bud I wouldn't be using led.

What is you main concern? Not enough bud, too expensive, high humidity, small grow space? All can be rectified without resorting to LEDs. What you will do is get a small problematic grow which no one can help you with cos we will have no idea on light setups, spectrums etc. You then will try a different way of growing or media and not fix it because you never addressed the real problem.

Here are some real good ideas.

Small tent (what's ya max space)

250w son t argo hps

Cool tube

Centri fan

Couple of pedestal fans (work so good at keeping mould at bay, amongst other things)

Good airflow is king. Don't let the humidity linger in the room. I find I can have high humidity and temps and get away with it. Maybe use the led for a little verging cab or something. Canna plants do well in veg with shit light bit when they need energy on flower to produce resin covered colas, that's when the need strong, usable light to make energy.

Hi JJ

Well I think I've been convinced to leave the LED for a while at least, my brother has started to build it so will let him go. But what you say here makes perfect sense. I have learned a lot on this forum, like how far away the lights should be, also had a good look at using the mesh to thread the branches through to keep the plants a little lower, and the list goes on and on, so I have decided to take your advice and do another HID grow using all the new information I have learnt. I have got these bogan plants in at the moment,(they are a strange breed the leaves only have 3 fingers on them) they are about two weeks away from harvest, they have very small buds, but heaps and heaps of them. so will wait til I harvest them and put all my learning to work. Will do a grow diary cause I'm sure I havn't learnt all there is to learn and always happy for any advice I can get. But will do the next grow with bag seed before I go and send for some seeds from O/S Thanks heaps for all your help and making me see some sense

Hi Hash Nibbler

Look a lot of what you are saying I totally agree with, I was getting disillusioned with HIG, that why I started looking at LED, but after looking through this forum, I have realised that I was doing so many other things wrong, so am going to give it another go using all the information I have learnt on OZstonners What a GREAT Site this is, lots of advice and great discussions

Cool Jemma =), if you like start a grow diary, and we'll help ya through it, always a reason for low yield, first step.....decent genes. Ya never gonna know if it was shitty bagseed or your growing/setup that is giving the dissappointing results, until you do.

Heaps of people help you here, and Soooo much easier with a diary, because at the start ya make a list of what your using, and at any given time, with a few pics and that info, peeps can see what the go is. best of Luck with ya future grows. Peace. Nibbler.

Hi,

I am an LED grower, and i have a 400w led grow light. The light has 128 3w diodes and only pull 210watts of power. My last grow i harvested 190grams from 4 auto's in my grow tent in 9-10 weeks and i am still a novice grower lol .... I used to have a 450w HID and it got my tent just too hot, so i am all for led's!

Sorry mate if it's only pulling 210w of power, it can't output 400w.........if it can let me know cause it be groundbreaking science......

Grow diaries from start to finish with pictures are what we wanna see.....Current ones.... Peace. Nibbler.

Would like to see some pics of your LED grow if you may have any...
