notice no one in the thread actually had any experience pulling good yield with LED? sure it will grow ok in veg , sure it will get you some bud , but where are the aussies pulling the pounds out of leds?

also re: heat im in perth , brutal summers . a 400w hps in a cooltube setup is 1.5-2c above ambient temp

at the moment , not worth paying 1200$ for a high end LED for 1.5c off your temps!

Thanks for your input, I'm not pulling pounds out of HID either, must be doing something wrong, somewhere, just thought about experimenting with something different, I thought it might be the heat getting to the plants, I know it gets hot over in the West, but do you get the humidity that we get in Qld. As I said previously I have a mate that is willing to build me a LED set up for just the price of the equipment he uses, he's my brother, so sure he won't dud me. I'm just open to any advice to just get one decent crop, then I will be happy. Even going to try an outdoor crop this year. I see some of the stunning plants photgraphed in this forum, and I'm green with envy, its just not fair I can't do it, but will keep on trying!!!!

Hey Jemma, seen some great results in aquarium setups. If this guy knows his stuff you should be able to grow some great plants. If you model it on any of the LED companies I listed above you can't go wrong. Look on some of the US forums and youtube for some examples of crazy LED grows.

He makes a fortune building LED for aquariums, and I think he does know his stuff. I have had a quick look at the sites you suggested,. Guess if you have to pay the prices they are asking you would really think twice just for an experiment, seeing that I won't be paying anything near what they are asking, think it might be worth a try. By the way have you finished a crop with the LED? if so how did you go? or how far along are you.

I think light distances depend on beam angle and watt per chip. The thing I love about LED is no heat so you can sit the lights really close and get extremely tight node spacing and really short bushy plants. Great when head room is low.

Yeah Jemma,

did 2 plants closet grow with LED, soil with hydro nutes and burnt the shit out of them :( had ph probs too. Was really just fucking around with that grow. Got 1 O from one plant (36 inch Auto Flowers) and about 15 grams from the other one. The one that yielded an O must have liked the abuse. I don't have much space in the cupboard so I have to keep them small.

This grow I'm a bit more serious, coco with 2x 240W BlackStar LED's. Just 1 plant will be flipping to 12/12 at the end of the week (6 weeks from seed) so then I can see what LED's can do. Same small grow space though, but I know I can yield more than 1 1/2 Oz from this plant. Haven't even burnt her with the nutes yet :) under feed her instead lol. Both grows are in my diary if you want to check it out.

I find the HID helps with humidity to an extent as it dries out the medium somewhat and has greater penetration down to the medium which LEDs would lack

what is your hid set-up?

my last full grow I pulled a pound of dried bud from 6 plants in flood and drain setup , 1000w air cooled , 1.2x1.2x1.8 grow box.

this grow i switched to coco and it hasn't been as successful but its not the HID fault.

your best bet to success is to find a tried and tested grow setup on here and copy it exactly , experimenting is fun but can lead to unpredictable results .

remember this is a risky hobby , you put your neck on the line for 4 months of the grow , you want to get back the most return for that risk

I would love for LED technology to get good enough to replace HID , but so far lack of local verifiable results has put me off . and for every american claiming success theres another claiming its a scam

Well I got me LED today and Im quite pissed turned it on and they were all red. Turns out I was a dumbass and ordered in the middle of the night while tired as. So shot myself in the leg, oh well just will have to give it a go and see wat happens. Will not be buying from these fella's again. If it goes alright I might invest in a better one but I will be going HID in the near future. Though if it goes alright I might just add a couple of cfl's in there as this grow I got going is in a lil stealth box bout 2sqft and 4ft high

As bluntman said, a lot of risk.

Jemma if you want bud I wouldn't be using led.

What is you main concern? Not enough bud, too expensive, high humidity, small grow space? All can be rectified without resorting to LEDs. What you will do is get a small problematic grow which no one can help you with cos we will have no idea on light setups, spectrums etc. You then will try a different way of growing or media and not fix it because you never addressed the real problem.

Here are some real good ideas.

Small tent (what's ya max space)

250w son t argo hps

Cool tube

Centri fan

Couple of pedestal fans (work so good at keeping mould at bay, amongst other things)

Good airflow is king. Don't let the humidity linger in the room. I find I can have high humidity and temps and get away with it. Maybe use the led for a little verging cab or something. Canna plants do well in veg with shit light bit when they need energy on flower to produce resin covered colas, that's when the need strong, usable light to make energy.

Hi JJ

Sorry I didn't get back to you but have been away for a couple of days for work. What you say makes sense, This is what I've got

2x2x2mt grow tent

2x400HIG use one for veg and both for flowering

In line fan

Use expanded clay

Top feed buckets(4) on watering timer

Use all house and garden nuts and follow their schedule to the T

Use pedalstal fan for air circulation

At present temps are around 25c during the day,

One thing I know I do wrong is not having the lights close enough, the last lot of plants stretched to buggery, could this also have something to do with the small bud size???

Thanks for your help

Try posting some Pics up and start a grow diary jemma, then we can see what were working with, and can give ya better advice, but ya need a carbon filter and Centrifugal fan too, if ya wanna make the smell in flower un detectable, staying stealth is part of growing.

Peace. Nibbler.

Have just got about two weeks to go for this grow, Have got seedlings just about ready to go when they are finished. So will start a grow diary for next lot. Is there a section just for grow diaries, if there is I can't find it. I have picked up a few hints from this forum, next grow I will be using the mesh to spread out the branches, something I have never done before and will have the lights closer, somebody said max 40cm. I am just using bag seed for now, as I am not having much success, as soon as I think I know what I'm doing I will buy from the seed bank, I have done in the past, but I just botched them.

Jemma
