lol.. Im going to get 400watt HPS and use MH retro bulb my brother... I was just asking for peoples thoughts any would still be good.

Cheers

Or you can save your money on the retro fit and just get my favourite lamp... a philips son-T-agro 400W HPS and not have to fuck around with changing lamps half way through the grow.

Hi there Bigtime,

I started out using Son-t 400 HPS but it doesn't need to be a son-t. Son-t-agro is a brand name owned by Phillips. Any 400 watt HPS bulb will work. I now use 600w HPS x 4. I use the same bulbs from start to finish. As Lou states it saves pissing around changing bulbs/ballasts. Using HPS for the grow cycle does slow things down a bit compared to MH but its minimal and for heading HPS is far superior than MH.

If you've got the money to setup two rooms (and Pay the power bill) you can rotate your crops but you don't need two rooms to grow. I have a grow room and a "mother" cupboard to take clones from. The cupboard has a CFL and uses bugger all for power compared to the room.

As for where to find HPS bulbs it varies from state to state. Some states have now banned the sale of the bulbs unless you're an electrical installer, you can be fined for possessing the bulbs if you don't have an electricians licence. I have a friendly shop assistant who obtains mine for me. My local hydro store won't sell them. Some electrical wholesalers have them in stock and same with some gardening suppliers but again you'll need to suss this out for yourself
