2 bucket DWC - what do I buy?

I'm thinking of making up a 2 bucket DWC system - using the usual 20 litre buckets you get at hardware stores. Two questions though, what size net pots should I get and why? Small or large, what size in cm/inches? Does it matter much? Larger pots give more stability and can have a lower water level?

 

Also what size air pump should I get, nothing outrageous I just want an average pump cc size to handle two buckets only.

you want the 200mm netpots, for the reasons you've said, stability, it stops the pot falling out of the buckets.

 

I run 1 precision 9500 air pump for every 2 buckets, any mid size airpump over $20 will do fine,

With airpumps, I like enough air going through the stones to create a turbulance in the nutrients....it helps with keeping the nutrients stirred up as well as adding plenty of oxygen for the root system.

I also try to have the airstone directly under the netpot/s.

I reckon 150 netpot is plenty big. smaller netpots have their advantages IMO. allows higher water level = more root mass = bigger yields. thats my theory anyway.
