Roots blocking drainage

Hey everyone

 

Does anyone else have problems with the roots blocking the drainage holes in their collainders?

We are running recirc system with clay balls, and the roots seem to clog the holes up resulting in a flood.

 

Any suggestions?

Stockings work well. Allows the water to drain through but the roots can't penetrate.

 

But since your plants are already in there. You might be able to plug the drainage holes with bits of chux or sponge.

Pretty sure the roots will go through stockings td?

i had the same problem i ended up drilling holes in the bottom of the pot the plant was already in flower and just keept flooding soon as i drilled a few holes in the bottom all fixed just have to be careful of the roots also my res sits directly under the pot :bongon:

More holes have been drilled, the roots blocked the new holes also...

Ok I think I got the picture of what you mean.

 

I always use a stick I have.well its a dowl 1/4 inch round and I push it down thru all my pot of soil.

I bet an ice pick will do what you need.it wont hurt the roots as long as you dont go crazy which i am sure you will not. But small holes will work.Got a pic of you setup ?

I have never used stockings before, but i have seen them used before in bucket systems to stop the roots from getting into the pipes, something i didn't do with my bucket grow but should have.
