What is mylar and where can i get it form.

 

How much does it cost and or is there a cheep alternative?

mylar is just another way of making the surfaces of your grow space more reflective it comes in rolls like thick alluminum foil and thats kinda what it is...that said as a cheap alternative u can use foil(shiney side out) but bare in mind foil is cheap and thin, it will break puncture rip and do anything else u can imagine so if u go that way it will cost u time and hassle in the future with maintaining it! u can use white paint, white plastic, mirrors even thick white curtains its all gunna work, but it comes down to budget and the size of your growspace hope this helps abit

Mylar is supposed to be the best reflective surface followed very closely by flat white. You can buy a white plastic from hydro stores that is pretty good but I just use a flat white ceiling paint, it's cheap, durable and easy to keep clean. I have been told that hiker’s emergency blankets are made of Mylar and are fairly cheap.

 

Aluminium foil and mirrors aren't that good and are more a last resort type of thing as they absorb too much of the usable spectrum.

Must be why............ they make white mylar these days . It is possible to use the insulation mylar from hardware stores about $100 a roll of 25 mtrs. Comes in foil,bubblewrap and adhesive backed. Theres always a cheaper alternative, its just finding it.

Hi Stonedas, that foil from the hardware sounds interesting, is that the stuff that's about a metre wide and has string reinforcing in it? If it is that’s the stuff I line my walls with before painting.

Yea thats the stuff its also available as refrigeration walls and roofers plastic (one side bright orange or red / other mylar foil)

Thanks Stonedas, I'll have to check it out next time I go up the coast, my stuff is probably the older model as it is pretty dull on both sides.

hey stonedas this insulation mylar from hardware stores is it the same as astrofoil from hydroshops.

The only hydroponics store that I have found that is located in Australia and supplies mylar are these guys they are located in Victoria
