Flat stem mutation

Here are a few pics i snapped today of 1 of my plants which has started to get the weird flat stem mutation

not the whole plant just on which looks like the main cola, it's also happened in another spot

which I've taken a cutting just of

 

This pic you can see extra nodes

 

This is where it starts to really mutate it looks like its split into 2 parts with the flat stem continuing

with weird early bud formation (10 days into flowering cycle)

 

 

Here is the cutting i took last night

should be interesting to see if it continues flat or grows out

 

 

the strain is unknown i got it off an old timer about a year ago who has retired from growing now and moved on

he originally started it about 15years ago.

it did it on my last grow but i didn't think about taking a cutting but got 1 this time around.

I have had that happen a few times across different strains, don't know what causes it but the end result has always been a big round solid head about the size of a tennis ball. Edited March 5, 2010 by Cyclops

Keep cloning it if you can and see if the trait is stable.

it almost died i had a major salt build-up on my heatpad which pretty much nuked it.

but i prayed hard to the ganga gods then threw it in the corner of the current grow

the top died off but has shot out with side nodes, still to embarrassing for a pic

if anything strange happens with it I'll be sure to update with some pics

Had something similar many years ago on one branch of an outdoor bagseed grow. When it went to head the number of nodes grew exponentially around the flat (almost splitting in two) stem and seemed to just be white hairs at the top 2cm and then growth terminated on that branch before maturity. It is like it grew into itself similar to labial crestation in cacti.
