Bad/Out of date seeds

Recommended Posts

Hi there just wanted to post some information about seeds.

I spose everyone has heard of monsanto here and how the seeds from monsanto crops are not suppose to be able to used again. Well one inventor made a machine to scratch the outter layer of seeds of monsanto crops and thus they were able to be re-used.

So if anyone has bad seeds/out of date seeds try to thouroughly scratch the outer layer of the seed and see if it will grow.

Cheers :)

Giving hard to germinate seed a rub with a bit of sandpaper can sometimes help but I'm lost as to where Monsanto fits into this? Their genetically modified seeds are made so that they cant make viable seeds for a few reasons such as ensuring people need to buy more seeds from them if they wish to grow future modified crops which suits Monsanto. The law also says any modified seeds grown cant grow viable seed to ensure the modified genetics don't escape into the general seed stocks and pollute crops grown by organic farmers for eg. This is achieved on a genetic level though and has nothing to do with the seeds casing.

Monsanto also doesn't sell genetically modified canabis seed (yet) or any cannabis seed AFAIK. Are u referring to their cotton and other genetically modified crop seeds?

Thanks, I needed a new coat. Now the first part of any scientific investigation is the lit review... and guess what? It turns out that Scarification is a technique that has been employed successfully, for as long as humans have been growing annual grain crops, to break the hardened seed casing of stored grain.

I really don't see any scope for new research here...
