does this technique work?

hey everyone.. i was talking to a mate who tells me that when his brother used to grow he used he used decrease the hours of light during flowering more and more each week.. so basically 12 hours to start flowering then he would decrease the time by 2 hours every two weeks so after week 8 if they went that long they were recieving only 4 hours of light a day.. he claims that this increases the size and amount of buds and also speeds up the flowering time by a couple of weeks in some cases more..

can anyone lend any credence to this.. i have never heard anyone else using this method. i guess in theory the less light hours the more the plant thinks its gonna die and pumps out its flowers quicker but also i imagine there is a point where its not recieving enough light to anything other than die, and we dont want that happnin...

so if anyone can either back this method up or crush it, id love to hear all sides.. i always feel its better to look at all views before making my own instead of following just 1.

one thing i can tell you is that 12 hrs light per day is minimum time needed for optimal psychoactive production and flower construction, this has been established by noted researchers into Cannabis

chlorophyll, starches and sugars need to be moved around the plant so it can reach its potential, it is a time of huge transformation within the plant much energy is needed

there is no good reason for anything under 12hrs light

ive done a 10hr light ten hr dark cycle it took off a wk of flower had same results as usual m8

plant finished in 8wk instead of the 9 it normally takes

wouldnt go less than 10hr light thou

I've read some diarys that tried that - but not as extreme as your mate says

 

The results were a marginal decrease in flowering length but not any significant bud increase

 

can't remember where the threads are but I'll have a search for em...

 

Also the hrs were only decreased to about 9 hrs gradually

yeah pretty much what i thought.. just thought id ask.. personally i think it sounds a bit crazy and if it only speeds things up by a week it doesnt seem like a risk worth taking..id guess youd wanna ba an advanced grower to try it as a noob like me would just end up killing them..
