does this work?

Recommended Posts

I have been told that when a my plant is ready pull it out of the pot with the roots get as much soil as i can off and dip all the roots in boiling water and hang the plant upside down for a day or 2 and all the buds will be covered with a very thick layer of crystals after hanging for the day or 2 after doing it then just cure as normal. is this true or not?

I find if I pay attention to looking after my plants they will be covered with a thick layer of trichomes (crystals) anyway.

The secret to growing good weed is the same as the secret to growing anything else, just give it the right conditions and you will be sweet.

There are no magic bullets.

If you do boil your roots please take a photo, that would be a classic......

Yep, an old wives tale I am also aware of and thought had a basis. The basis however seems to be flawed.

The idea is that applying hot water to the root system causes the plant to force any remaining goodness out to the buds. Thanks to the internet and people with a good understanding of THC production it is suggested that there _is no movement_ of THC through plants. THC is produced or collected in trichomes and there it stays.

Or in other words, another silly idea that is worth asking about. The idea has been around, to my knowledge, for 30yrs. I myself have tried the idea with two similar plants and could not see any difference in the end result.

Fundamentally, a freshly pulled plant is alive, and stays that way, though ailing, for a few days. In fact the shock of being pulled out of the gound can be expected to cause the plant to attempt to get as much reproduction done as possible. ie. new pistils and growth of existing. This, in and of itself, consumes the resources in the plant's transport system. If you simply hang the plant with attached roots you will see that the roots will dry and shrivel 1st as the plant tries to suck _anything_ out that will keep it alive. Plants, like animals, will even consume their own 'flesh' attempting to stay alive.

On the one hand: Boiling the roots _may_ force any remaining nutes out of the root system into the plant proper.

On the other: any change to potency that this _may_ cause can be expected to be minimal.

OH, and I've heard variations from 'luke warm water' to 'steam the bitch'.

Some of the variations I've heard include sugar water/coke(acola) to make the buds sticky and crystalline looking, or vodka to give the smoke extra potency. All total BS, but as I said in the days before free and easy internet access there were some weird rumours that would do the rounds about MJ. I might even start a tread about them.

yep, now that you mention it I've heard those variations too, including using DarJeeLing tea to flavour things.

Heck, chuck a sacrificial plant in warm piss for a few hours, if there actually is any 'transport' you can give it to someone you don't like. (warm piss was one of the rumours I'd heard. That guy is still laughing, I'm sure.)

Unless anyone can find a reference about THC migration or a defined improvement by 'shocking' the root system I think we can put this baby to bed.

I think someone might be having a laugh at your expense

Boiling the roots would help potency about as much as shaking helps turn males into females...

What that doesn't work??? Explains a few things, hehe.

also, you could maybe soak the roots in something sweet for a few days or something i dont know maybe that would adjust the taste. but as for potency as stated above good conditions(and strain quality) is the main thing(s)

Seems to me a few posters are saying , "yeah I heard that , but it wont work " sort of thing ,, has anyone actually DONE IT ?

I have ,, and while I cannot say if it increases resin or potency ,, I do know that while trimming the buds ,, the smell was tenfold and our eyes stung ,, like peeling onions . Some people that smoked the buds were telling how much better they were from the last crop ,, they hadnt been told that we dunked the roots in boiling water by the way ,, so there MAY be something in it . Either way ,, the buds were good and it didnt HURT the buds .

Never discredit something on someone elses "say so " until you have done it YOURSELF
