shrivelling stem on seedlings

Well of late i have noticed a few of my seedligs shrivel and fall over, does anyone have any idea what could cause this ??? the actual leaves stay fine but part ofthe stem appears as though it has been squashed flat and cant support any weights... its only a bagseed so i am not too worried but this is the second one out of the batch too do it.

Sounds like damping off to me DS. It's caused buy a fungus. Too much moisture causes it. Easiest way to stop it is by watering less.

Yeah, I've had that a few times, as mongy says, too much water in the medium, coco and rockwool are shockers for it with seeds, seedraising mix doesnt cause it nearly as often. I sprout in seedmix and transplant into coco in 2nd week.

Yeah i had this happen to me with my outside plants since its raining a fair bit the soil doesnt dry out enough and seems to rot the stem under the soil.

I've had that a few times with rockwool - since I moved to Jiffy pots I've never had it

As others have said it is caused by too much moisture in the medium - back the watering off a lot
