NEIGHBOURS of a "grow house" are concerned that cannabis was grown in their northern suburbs street which is full of children.

Police found 40 mature cannabis plants and 15kg of dried product in the Justinian St, Elizabeth Downs this morning and took a 33-year-old woman away for questioning.

Residents of the street said the woman would come and go from the house all the time. "This is not good this is a very kid orientated area,'' a neighbour said.

"It's a bonus that this cannabis is off the street, but there are plenty more of them about (grow houses) when you get rid of one another you find another one".

Earlier today, a Croydon Park man was caught growing 51 cannabis plants and seedlings hydroponically setup in his home.

"The man, 33, was charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of cannabis and will appear in court at a later date,'' police spokeswoman Senior Constable Vanessa Kelly said.

New laws have been passed but are yet to come into effect making it an offence to posses hydroponic equipment including industrial strength lights and exhaust fans unless it can be proved that they are used for growing vegetables.
