POLICE seized $60,000 worth of cannabis hidden in the main bedroom of a Molendinar home yesterday.

About 6.30am police raided the Sexton Court house where they found more than 3kg of cannabis in sealed bags under a mattress, in bags in a backpack and on a chair.

Acting Senior Sergeant Laurie Shevlin from the Southport Police Station said the packages were clearly marked for distribution throughout the Gold Coast and could have been on the street within days.

"It was quite evident ... they had stumbled upon at least a medium level significant distributor on the Gold Coast," he said.

"We are very happy with the result because clearly that sort of dent in the supply of cannabis on the Gold Coast is going to have an effect."

Sen-Sgt Shevlin said the offenders had gone to great lengths to conceal the cannabis.

"A significant amount was actually under a mattress, obviously to prevent detection from people when they are taken to the address," he said.

"The police were quite surprised at the quantity they found and purely the fact they had taken so much time and effort to package it in such a way to minimise the physical size of it and obviously it's easier to conceal."

A 45-year-old man and 44-year-old woman have been charged with possession of a dangerous drug, things used in a crime, and utensils. Both will appear in the Southport Magistrates Court on September 18.

Sen-Sgt Shevlin said police were tipped off by a call to Crime Stoppers.

"We're very happy with the quality of Crime Stoppers information that's being passed on from the community," he said.

"This (raid) is a direct result of that information and we urge all members of the public, if they are aware of criminal activity going on, to forward that information."

3 kg Wow that sure will put a dent in the supply to the Gold Coast. Bloody wankers. You can fool some of the people some of the time but you can't fool all of the people all of the time. :P

Ah yes, what an excellent way to drive a wedge through the community as well as alienate the police force from such a large demographic of the population, is it any wonder anyone who enjoys cannabis now mostly want NOTHING to do with the police in general? Respect is a 2 way street.

Thanks for that lil tid bit of entertaining, politically driven, police lap dog propaganda/brain washing/mumbo jumbo grace lol

;) @ brick50, right on man ;)

I wonder what kind of satisfaction the dobbers get out of this?

What is the motive? Revenge?

Or is it nosey neighbours?

There are a lot of these types of busts being credited to crimestoppers. However it could be the work of undercover police.

Whatever, the newspaper reports are full of the usual propaganda.
