50,000 signatures?

Recommended Posts

okay so I think the e petition would be best option?

Any idea on the exact wording? Making sure we don't allow any technical phrasing to be a cause for the petition to be rejected.

My understanding is once the petetion is filed with the council of civil liberties they will support it with all thier legal resources?

50,000 people demanding the government face facts and start acting honestly! fuck shaking the tree, chop it down and smoke it :D

Hi all,

Good to see some interest.

Here's my two bobs worth

I think it would be good to follow QCCL recommendations??

Any other suggestions for wording would be appreciated?

It's worth looking at closed and current petitions and the responses.

I think it's worth a shot

If you have trouble getting a MP to sponsor your petition let me know and I'll help out there.

:D

1. Keep it short and simple

Going by the current and closed petitions they are short and simple. The recommendations of the QCCL for decriminalisation are to the point (see below). The QCCL submission can be used as a reference to support the petition etc. Maybe there should be separate petitions for some issues??

Decriminalisation Penalties

2.3 SHOULD THE PENALTY STRUCTURE IN RELATION TO CANNABIS, OR SOME CANNABIS RELATED OFFENCES, BE ALTERED? SHOULD SOME OFFENCES BE DECRIMINALISED?

Possessing cannabis (use) - legalise possession of up to 20 plants or 250 grams.

Possessing things - delete penalties from the Act.

Supplying cannabis - legalise transactions that involve amounts of up to 20 plants or 250 grams.

Producing cannabis - legalise production of up to 20 plants.

Trafficking in cannabis - legalise transactions that involve amounts of up to 20 plants or 250 grams.

Permitting Use of Place - only an offence where amounts exceed those described above.

2. You need a member of parliament to sponsor the petition

3. e-petition request form

4. Ministerial Responses

Standing Orders provide that the Clerk shall refer a copy of the material parts of every petition presented to and received by the House to the Minister responsible for the administration of the matter which is the subject of the petition.

The Minister may forward a response (“Ministerial Response”) to a petition to the Clerk. The Clerk:

(a) tables the response;

(:D forwards a copy of the response to the Member of Parliament who presented the petition; and

© ensures the response is published on the Parliament’s Internet web site.

If the House is not sitting when the Clerk receives a Ministerial Response to a petition, the response is deemed to be tabled when it is received by the Clerk.

Details of all tabled Ministerial Responses are posted on the site.

All naturally occuring plants/substances should be covered in the petition, there is already division on what should be included :D

My opinion is that chemicals should not be included.

Taken from http://www.ffdlr.org.au

We recognise that the present prohibition policies:

* are not preventing the use and abuse of illegal drugs;

* do not protect our young people, their families or their friends from related tragedy;

* cause unintended harm and limit harm reduction strategies;

* marginalise and stigmatise people in our community;

* work against the application of human rights for dependent drug users;

* impede the development of beneficial medical applications of illegal drugs;

* put the control of illegal drugs outside the law;

* create the conditions for a black market that enriches criminals and promotes the distribution of the drugs;

* fund terrorist activities;

* waste enormous economic resources.

Further we resolve to promote:

* activities that raise awareness of the issues;

* activities that will overcome stereotyping and marginalisation;

* education programs that are directed toward reducing harm and minimising abuse;

* standards and accreditation for drug treatments and interventions;

* provision of adequate and well resourced drug treatments and interventions;

* the important role of families in drug treatment and rehabilitation;

* the search for better drug policies based on evidence;

* cautious and well-researched steps toward changing laws so that they cause less harm;

* removal of criminal sanctions for personal use of currently illegal drugs.

A few alterations to the wording?
