New South Wales Police have praised the behaviour of the crowd at Byron Bay's Splendour In The Grass music festival, despite making a number of arrests.

Seven people were charged with supplying prohibited drugs, 73 were cautioned for cannabis use and 71 people were charged with other offences.

Cannabis and ecstasy were also confiscated from some of the 17,500 people who attended the two-day festival.

The Living End, Wolfmother, Pnau and The Presets were among the acts to perform.

At last year's festival, 31 ambulances were needed to transport revellers to hospital for drug and alcohol intoxication. This year police say only three people had to be taken to hospital.

mmm, i was there. police presence was very good and i rarely appreciate the police's work.

My mate was caught with 3 pills, 11 joints in a plastic bag and they gave him off with a warning. any other day and the cop would of been an absolute jackass but this guy was a good bloke.

i saw a girl o.d at about 11:30 am on the first day. a bit disappointing.
