In the pic you can clearly see the green line for earth and the L for Loop.

Does it matter which way the Active and Neutral go even when using a CFL

If it doesnt matter Im away

Cheers

ok, sounds like you understand what your looking at. You have put a pic up of a Bayonet Cap (BC) lampholder. Active and Neutral can go in either terminal. If it was an Edison Screw (ES) style you would connect active to the centre tongue of the lampholder.

Don't use the earth or loop terminal obviously

Positive and Negative(ground) are 12v terms, we're not wiring up dad's trailer in the back yard here

Active and Neutral, in a 240v system, should always to be referred to as just that, both have the potential to kill, and each cable should be regarded as a live conductor.

Neutral cables can reach voltages well above zero volts simply by disconnecting them, so referring to them as ground is inviting trouble. :peace:

arnt the terminals at the bottom of the socket clearly marked with letters or symbols ? when i wired up my lights it was all fairly straight forwards, as long as there is a symbol for active and neutral u should be sweet. i learn all my electrical skills from a mate who is a sparky and im not the sharpest knife in the draw so if i could get it correct im sure u will be alright.
